How to Install a Trailer Wiring Harness on a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban

Today on this 1999 Chevrolet Suburban, we're going to install part number 118319. This is Tow Ready's T-1 connector. One thing to know is that a majority of these trucks have tow packages already installed. On the Suburban, it's typically located on the left hand side. It's also a great alternative in case your wire harness is damaged and it's too short or you don't want to splice wires. Our connection point is right behind the stock hitch on this particular vehicle. Go ahead and disconnect the connection point.

Pull up on a small tab and then pull it apart. Then, we'll connect the matching ends of the T connector between both halves. Connection is already made and now we need to take our white wire to ring terminal and ground it to the frame. We use a provided self-tapping screw to do this. We'll go ahead and route our wiring harness over the hitch into the safety chain loops. Then, we have a cap to help hold it in place. It's already installed and it's a good idea to try it out before we use it on a trailer. Go ahead and test it out.

We'll take our tester and connect it to the ground wire, which will be our white wire, and then we'll test the brown wire for running lights. Yellow for left turn, and green for right turn. Our brake will be a constant left and right signal. With that, it'll finish it for our install of part number 118319 Tow Ready for our 1999 Chevrolet Suburban. .
