How to Install a Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2004 Nissan Armada

Today on this 2004 Nissan Armada we are going to install part number N40975 from Hoppy. We are also going to use part number 18140 from Tow Ready. This is the bracket we will use to connect to the hitch. These are the two parts that come with the Hoppy kit. This bracket, and this connector, they just snap together. Mounting this to the hitch is going to be a little bit different. That is where we are going to use the other part number 18140. This will clamp to the hitch, and then we will mount this to the bracket. :35

If you look at the vehicle, there is not a very good place to attach this to. You could put it off to the side here, but that would require an extra long lead from your trailer to go around and make a right hand turn. It is not a good idea to put it that far out. We are going to move it here where there are a couple options. You can mount our bracket like this and mount it below, but it does look out of place. What we can do is actually take our bracket, put a small bend in it and put it like this and attach it which brings it a little bit closer. What we will do is take this piece and put it in a bench vice, grab a pair of plyers and pull up on this to make a gentle curve. You should end up with something like this. 1:18

Lets go ahead and install our bracket. Run the clamp around it, pull it through the clamp, and then take the threaded part, and push it towards the band itself and it locks in place. Then you can tighten it up. We will cut off our excess, That will leave a sharp edge, so we will leave it long and fold it up inside, that way you have a rounded edge instead of a sharp edge. We will that through the top, put this on, add a fender washer which you can get from any hardware store. Then bolt it together. This vehicle has the factory wiring harness built it, it is tucked up behind the bumper up here, so I have to reach in and pull it out. It does have a fastener that holds it in place. Pop it out and bring it to you. 2:49

Take off our cap, and then take our connector and snap it into place. Then plug our wiring together. Now take your wires, and zip tie them up and out of the way. We will go ahead and point out where the relays are going to be located on this vehicle. We are on the passenger side of the vehicle underneath the hood next to the battery. There are two fuse panel covers, we are going to remove the one closest to the battery. This vehicle has all the relays installed from the factory, so we got lucky. But, if you did not have it you would have to put a blue relay here.,located in Tow 1. In this socket you would install the brown one in location Tow 2. If you needed a 3rd one, there is an extra socket over here for it. Some models need this one, some do not. It also varies between the years, so take a look at what you have and what you need on your vehicle. That will finish our install of part number N40975 from Hoppy and part number 18140 from Tow Ready.
