How to Install a Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2005 Honda Pilot

Today on our 2005 Honda Pilot we'll be installing the Tow Ready T1 Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-pole Flat Trailer Connector, part number 118336. To being our install we'll first go ahead and open up the rear hatch. Then the rear storage compartment door and we'll remove the door and set it aside. Next we'll need to remove the rear threshold. To remove the rear threshold we simply need to get underneath of it and free the fasteners underneath using a flat blade screw driver. I'll get underneath the threshold and start working the fasteners to release them. When we remove the threshold and turn it over we can see the snap fasteners that secure it. Between the back edge of the storage compartment and the front edge of the sheet metal if we push forward we can locate the wiring connector.

If we take our flat blade screwdriver and pop that fastener free we can gain access to the connector. We'll simply take the two grey connectors and plug them together. With the electrical connection made we'll need to mount the converter box. The converter box comes with a two-way adhesive, pre-installed, simply remove one side of the adhesive and adhere it to the vehicle. We're looking for a clean, flat surface preferably sheet metal. The sheet metal just behind the storage compartment would be a perfect location.

Then firmly press it into position. Then take our wiring, push it back into position and our 4-pole can then wrap into the storage compartment. Now I'll go ahead and reinstall the threshold in the storage compartment door. With the harness installed we'll go ahead and show you how to use it. We'll simply open up the rear storage compartment, take the 4-pole harness and run it out over the threshold, staying away from the latch. We'll simply close the rear hatch on the wire and then pull out what's necessary to run down to our hitch or accessory.

Once we're finished using our new 4-pole harness we can simply roll it up and store it in the rear storage compartment. Next we'll go ahead and show you how to set up your new 4-pole harness. Simply take your 4-pole harness and our test light, taking the ground clamp, putting it on the white wire terminal then testing the brown wire terminal and we can test the running light circuit. We can go ahead and take our test light and move to the yellow wire terminal for the driver side turn signal. The green wire terminal which will be for the passenger side turn signal. Now we know our 4-pole harness is good we're ready to hit the road. That does it for the install and testing of our new Tow Ready 4-pole Flat Harness part number 118336 on our 2005 Honda Pilot.
