How to Install a Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck Wiring Harness on a 2015 Ford F-350

Today on our 2015 Ford F350 Super Duty Crew Cab, we're going to be installing the Draw-Tite 5th Wheel and Gooseneck Wiring Harness with a 7-Pole, part number 20110. Now before we get our installation, we've already going ahead and remove the spare tire down out of the way. While it's not 100% necessary to do that, it does give you a little more working room and to make things a little bit easier for routing your wire. We're going to take our factory plug here, we're going to squeeze it on the tab on the backside. Get the plug loose, you see right up here on top of the hitch, the wiring is actually connected to the hitch so we're going to go ahead and remove the wiring here. So we have a little more slack with our wiring. Next we're going to need to undo the wiring from the back of the factory 7 and 4-way plug.

To do that, there's this little tab here, we'll push in on and gently pull outward like that. We can go ahead and set the factory 7-way plug aside for right now. Here's with our new 5th wheel wiring harness looks like. We're going to be connecting 1/2 of it to the factory wiring here and this other half will connect to our factory 7-way plug. It's a good idea before you make these connections to add a little bit of dielectric grease to each of them, that way it'll help keep keep the connection points from corroding up over time.

The dielectric grease we'll be using today is part number 11755. We go ahead and add a little bit to each connection point. Take the other end of our wiring harness, feed it up and over our hitch. We'll then take this connector here, connect it to our factory wiring, making sure that when you plug it in that you feel a click or locked in a position. I've got the other end of our new wiring harness, I fed it through the bracket here. We'll then go ahead and plug it back into the backside of our factory 7-way.

You want to make sure that you feel a click or locked in a position, put our factory plug back into the bracket, simply push it back in until you hear it clicked or snapped into place. Actually, we go ahead and move up underneath the vehicle, where we're going to use a few zip ties to help secure some of the wiring. Next, we'll take the other end of the wiring harness. We're going to need to route it around the frame, push it up into the area somewhere like this. We want to make sure we leave enough slack for now, so we can make our connection point. For now we're going to go ahead and leave our wire just hang in here.

We're going to go up into the bed and drill our hole to where we'll be mounting our new 7-way plug. You could see here, there's plenty of clearance between the inner bed wall and the outer bed wall to drill our hole. We'll be putting it somewhere in this general area on the inside of the bed. Now we're up inside the bed of the vehicle, we're going to mount our new 7-way plug somewhere in this area right here. We'll first going to go ahead and take our 1/4 inch bit. We're going to drill a pilot hole in. Next, we're going to use a 2-inch hole saw bit and drill out a larger hole. Now with our hole drilled out, we go ahead and clean up any mess as well as make sure that we clean up any sharp edges here by simply using a hand file, We go ahead and take our hand file here and clean up the edges. With the edges cleaned up, we can go ahead and run the vacuum to clean up any mess. Next, we go ahead and take the other end of the wiring harness that we fed over to the corner of the wheel right here. We're going to feed it up into the hole that we just drilled. We have our connector up into the bed. On this one, there is a little locking clips, it's a little gray clip. Notice half of the plug has a little locking clip on it, we need to push in here on the gray tab, slide this piece out, you take it out like that. We'll then go ahead and add a little bit of dialectic grease here to this connection point as well and then lineup the locking portion with the new 7-way plug. Push it together until you feel a click into position. We'll then take your locking clip, slides in and you push it down in that way it's locked and it can't come undone. We'll then take the 4 self-tapping screws that come with the kit and secure the new plug to the wall of the bed of the truck. With our plug secure, we can clean up any metal shavings that it may produce. Now that we have our connections made, we go ahead and use a few more zip ties to help securing any loose or excess wiring. Now that we have our wiring secure, we go ahead and trim off any excess zip tie, as well as reinstall the spare tire if you removed it. Now that we have our spare tire backup into position if you removed it, it's a good idea to plug in to your trailer and make sure that all the functions are working properly off of your new 7-way plug as well as the factory 7-way plug since you did unplug that to make a new connection there. With that, that'll do it for the installation of the Draw-Tite 5th Wheel and Gooseneck Wiring Harness with a 7-Pole, part number 20110, is installed on our 2015 Ford F350 Super Duty Crew Cab. .
