Review of the B and W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch

Today we're gonna be taking a look at the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with slider for Ford towing prep package. Part number BWRVK3370. Our 5th wheel hitch is gonna allow us to tow a 5th wheel trailer and since it has a slider base on it it's gonna give us that extra clearance when we're making tight turns so our trailer doesn't come in contact with our cab. Our handle down here, it's gonna have it labeled, is in the lock position. If we go to the unlock position we're gonna be able to slide our hitch a full 12 inches to give us that extra clearance. This is gonna be extremely beneficial for trucks that don't have a full eight foot bed whether you're going to the campground or going through a parking lot with your trailer you can come out, unlock our slider here and we're gonna be able to make those turns and not have to worry about our trailer crushing the side of our cab. The head on our hitch is gonna articulate front to back and side to side. That's gonna help reduce chuck.

Our hitch is gonna feature a one inch jaw here. Now, it is a two piece unlike a lot of the one piece with the lock bar model. This is gonna make 360 degree contact with the king pin and give us a nice quiet ride reducing the round. To open our jaws we have a tethered safety pin to keep everything locked in place and we won't lose it. We're just gonna reach back and by pulling the handle back towards the cab it's gonna open up our jaws and we pull our trailer up and our king pin comes in, it's gonna make contact and the cam action on the level is gonna automatically close. Where out pivot arm is gonna meet our head here it's gonna have a nice rubber bushing so we know we're gonna have a comfortable, quiet ride. The B&W here is gonna have a 20,000 pound gross trailer weight rating as well as a 5,000 pound vertical load limit.

I do want to mention you always want to check with your vehicle's owners manual to make sure your truck can handle that weight. It also features a gray powder coat finish, so it's gonna look great in any truck that you put it in. The nice feature about this 5th wheel hitch is that it's not permanent and since we have the factory tow package we are gonna be able to remove it and still have access to our bed. To remove the head of our 5th wheel we're gonna pull the cobber 00:02:15 pin back here and we're gonna remove the pin on each side. Then, if we lift on a handle right here on both sides our head will come right off. Down at our base here, we're gonna have a safety pin. We take our safety pin out and we're gonna rotate these handles til they're facing towards the outside of the vehicle.

That'll unlock it from our factory rails underneath and if we did that on both sides we'll be able to lift the base out. With everything pulled out then all we have left is put out factory pucks in place and we have full bed access. That'll finish up the look at the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with slider for Ford towing prep package. Part number BWRVK33770.
