Review of the Bulldog Wedge-Latch Cast Head Coupler Latch Repair Kit

Today we'll be having a look at the Bulldog Latch Repair Kit for Bulldog Wedge Latch cast head couples, part number F660801. Here's what our repair kit consists of. It has everything you need to repair your bulldog coupler, minus the housing itself. You have your ball catch here, and your latch mechanism here that secures the ball catch to the ball of your towed vehicle. This is a cost-effective and easy way to repair the coupler on your trailer without having to replace the entire coupler itself. These couplers are typically welded onto your trailer, so unless you have a welder handy, they aren't very easy to replace. We'll be using this coupler here as a demonstration purpose here on how the repair kit will work for you.

One thing you'll have to do on your coupler in order to get started, is there's this rivet pin here that's pushed in and then smashed through. In order to remove this you can take a grinder and cut off the head of the rivet and knock it out and then you'll be able to easily remove the latch mechanism and the ball catch right here. We'll show you how this all goes together. We'll take a ball catch, and we'll take this rod and thread it in, until it's just sticking out here at the bottom. You might need to fine tune it a little bit. We want to make sure the roll pin hole here is about as straight as possible going across this direction.

Once you have this removed, you have a new spring which will drop on down. This will get inserted up through your coupler from the bottom, just like this. Once you have it inserted in, you have your new latch mechanism here. Now the oval hole here will go onto this pin, and then a roll pin will secure it in place like that. You'll drive the roll pin all the way through and because you probably won't have a way to put the rivet in and smash it in place, it comes with a nut and bolt that'll go through this hole here, come out through this wedge here on the coupler, and then secured in place with a nut. This will give you a quick and easy way to replace all the critical parts in your coupler without having to replace the entire coupler and have it welded on.

That completes our look at the Bulldog Latch Repair Kit for Bulldog Wedge Latch cast head couplers, part number F660801.
