Review of the etrailer Watersport Carriers on a 2015 Subaru Outback Wagon

Today on our 2015 Subaru Outback, we're going to be doing a test fit on the etrailer J-Style Kayak Carrier. So I've already got it loaded up just to give you a good idea of what it looks like and how it's gonna hold our kayaks. It is a J-Style, as I said in the intro, so it's gonna prop up our kayaks. Now this system's gonna come with everything you need to safely transport your kayak. We've got the bow and stern straps, and then we got the two center straps here to go around our hull.Let's go ahead and take a look at our Outback's roof. Now, like I said, it is a universal mount system, but I've got it attached to our Subaru's factory cross bars.

As you can see, we've got more than enough room to carry other accessories, so that's a nice set up that we have here. Maybe if we want to carry two kayaks, or maybe a kayak and a bike rack, we're not gonna have any issues. Now right back here, with anything that we load up on our Subaru's roof, it's a good idea to make sure that you still leave enough room for that back hatch to open. Now, with the stern strap in place you're obviously not gonna be able to get it open, but with it removed we're not gonna have any real issues with raising that up. We're still gonna be able to get any large or small items out of the back.So like I said, it's a J-Style Kayak Carrier. We've got the pads here, that's gonna grip our kayak and prevent any damage to it.

On the back side, we've got the same pads. Let's go ahead and take our kayak off, and take a closer look. This is a bit of a process to remove the straps, but just keep in mind it's a good set up, and it's gonna allow us to safely transport our kayak down the road. Take off the bow and stern straps first. Since we got that stern strap all the way, let's go ahead and open up our rear hatch just to give you that peace of mind that we talked about.

As you can see, more than enough room.I'd like to point out that the straps feature a rubber . Excuse me, not a rubber, but a sleeve here that actually goes over the buckle that way it's going to protect our kayak from getting any scratches. And when we toss our strap over the kayak from the back to secure our kayak down, if it we're to come in contact with our vehicle, it's not gonna cause any harm to it because of that sleeve. Let's pull our straps out, like so. If you think you can manage taking your kayak off the roof, go ahead and try.

If you need an extra set of hands, again, maybe find somebody at the river or wherever you're at to give you an extra set of hands. I'm just gonna grab it, roll it towards me, and then lift it off.So with it removed, you can get a good idea of what our J-Style Kayak Carriers look like. I'd like to point out that they are completely adjustable to fit our kayak's hull. We can loosen up the levers here, and it opens up that hub. So depending on the size of our kayak, or our kayak's hull, we can go a little bit further back and we can go a little bit forward. But with that being said, when it's not in use, they're completely stowable. It is a good idea to fold them backward that way they don't come in contact with that roof, so that shows you that they'll go either way. So fold it down, and then lock them back in place. With them stowed, as you can see, it's gonna be a fairly nice set up. Got more than enough room for any other accessories on the other side like we talked about. I hope this video was helpful for you. That's gonna complete our look at the etrailer J-Style Kayak Carrier, on our 2015 Subaru Outback.
