Review of the Gen-Y Serrated Hitch Mounted Step

Hey guys, it's Colin here at etrailer and today I'm going to show you guys the Gen Y serrated hitch step. It is a step that mounts to your two inch by two inch hitch receiver and it's going to give you that extra boost so you can reach stuff on the inside of your truck bed, or maybe even put it in your SUV's hitch so you can reach something on the roof so you can avoid stepping on your bumper. And especially with those SUVs which nowadays seem to be made of a lot of plastic parts and can't support your weight. It's a nice step to have so you can boost up and grab whatever you need up there. And now you can see the top of our step is serrated so it's going to provide us with great grip, whether it's raining outside and we don't want to slip off of the step or maybe even you got some muddy boots on and you don't want to cake up your bumper. You just step on there.

You can see my foot hardly moves at all. The hitch itself is moving a little bit. That's okay. I'm going to just step up here and grab whatever we need to have in the bed of our truck. The step's got a really sturdy steel construction to it. It's got a black powder coat finish as well.

It's going to help it resist rust and corrosion. It's just going to be very heavy duty and lasts a long time. Now with any hitch mounted accessory, you are going to have added length to your vehicle. In this case it's not too much, but we're going to go ahead and give you that measurement so you can make sure you're still going to fit in your garage and still be able to park in tight parking spots. So we have actually two hitch pin holes on this step.

We're at the furthest one right now. So from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of our shank, it's going to be two inches. So if you have a bumper that extends down far enough, you want to make sure you have enough clearance from the same pitch pin hole in the center of it to the outermost points can be nine and three eighths of an inch.So let's go ahead and take the pin out. Push our shank in and reinsert the pin. We've taken away an inch of length, so now from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of our step right here is going to be one inch and then from the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost point's going to be eight and three eighths of an inch.

It is going to have a 300 pound weight capacity. It's actually more than enough for you to be able to hop on there and grab whatever you need out of the bed of your pickup or on the roof of your SUV. One thing I do want to point out is that it does not come with the pin and clip. You have to pick this up separately here at etrailer, but my personal advice is that if you plan on leaving your step and your hitch receiver for a long period of time, Gen Y makes some really nice products so it's probably a good idea to invest in a hitch lock.We sell plenty of those here at etrailer. That would provide more security for your Gen Y step. Now I've worked with a lot of different hitch-mounted steps and this one from Gen Y is very durable. One of the most high quality ones that I've come across. Gen Y is usually pretty well known from making those type of products that are going to last you a long time and that are really well built. Something that does bother me a little bit is that if I wanted to tow something, I will have to remove my step to insert my ball mounts. Now, if you're looking for something that you can do both with, Max Tow does have an option to where once you insert it, it's got a platform on top with the receiver tube opening where this would be. Now with that, you want to keep in mind that you probably will lose a little bit of your towing capacity, but if it's still something you're interested in, just check it out on our website. Well, thank you all for watching and I hope this information helped you out, but that's going to do it for our look at the Gen Y serrated hitch step.
