Today on our 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek, we're going to be test fitting the Kuat NV 2.0 bike rack, part number NV22G. We already have a bike installed on the rack. Let's go ahead and take a closer look and show off some of the features. The first one I like to show off is that fact that this can tilt away from the vehicle with the bike still attached. To do that, you hold onto the bike rack, come up to this latch on the passenger side, pull down like so, just gently let it down, and now we have access to our rear hatch to get whatever we need with plenty of space on both sides to do so. Go ahead and lift that back into position. How the bike is attached to the rack, we're going to have two points of contact with no frame contact at all.
We're going to have a wheel hook up here at the front and a wheel strap towards here at the back. We take the bike off and set it aside. Just push in on this tab on the wheel strap. While I'm holding onto the bike at the front, we'll release our wheel hook. Make sure you always do this, because you don't want it falling into the vehicle once you release the hook.
Push this button at the top, like so. Lift up, push away, and we're good to go. With it in this position, we have full access to the rear hatch of the vehicle. I would also like to go ahead and give you a couple measurements. Measuring from the edge of the bumper to our outer edge here, we've added about 31-1/2 inches to the rear of the vehicle. For ground clearance, we have it about 20 inches.
For our closest point, we have about 8 inches. This does fold up also for close-quarter situations, such as parking or when you put this in your garage. Again, you go this latch on the side. You push up, and it's locked into place. Again, measuring from the edge of the bumper here, now we've only added about 14-1/2 inches.
Our ground clearance is about 11 inches. Our closest point will be our wheel well here. It's going to be about 4-1/2 inches. How this attaches to the vehicle, we have a locking pin connected to the shank and we have this anti-rattle knob, which you turn to the right to tighten and the left to loosen. That'll take the shake and play out the shank to make for a much smoother ride. We also have this portion here, which is kind of a work station you can attach your bike to if you have to make any repairs while you ride. There you have it for the Kuat NV 2.0 Platform Rack, part number NV22G, on our 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek. First, we'll take onto our slalom course. This will show you the side-to-side action, such as making turns or evasive maneuvers. Now, we're at the alternating speed bumps. This will show you how it looks driving on uneven pavement or potholes. Finally, we're at the solid speed bumps, which simulates going into your driveway or parking lots.
