Review of the Kuat Hitch Bike Racks on a 2017 Ford Explorer

Today on our 2017 Ford Explorer we're doing a test fit of the Kuat NV 2.0 Base platform-style 2-bike rack. That part number is BA22B. Now we already have our bike secured down. We're first going to show you one of the key features of this rack. We're going to come here to the middle and pull down on our lever. That's going to allow us to tilt our bike rack with our bikes fully loaded away from our vehicle.

With it in that position you'll see we're going to gain full access into our back hatch area to get anything in or out that we may need. What's great about this is that we don't have to worry about removing our bike rack or our bikes just to gain this access. We've got plenty of room to stand in between and get out larger or smaller items. With that closing up, we can lift straight up on our bike rack until it clicks and locks into place. As for how our bike is secured down, here at the back we have a cam buckle strap. We're just going to push on the top portion and pull that out.

Here at the front we have a wheel hook. This sits either in front of our brakes or in front of our frame depending on how our bike is made. Push on the black button at the top to release that. Pull straight down to ratchet that down. Push that out of the way and we can take our bike off of our bike rack. One great thing about this bike rack is that it does fit fat tire bikes up to 4.8" in our front and back wheel cradle.

You will have that adapter strap that comes with your bike rack to add on that fat tire bike. Now we'll take a few measurements here. We've got about 29-1/2" added to our vehicle. Ground clearance is going to be about 23". Closest point is about 7-1/2". Another great feature of this rack is that we do have integrated cable locks at the back of each tray so that you can secure your bikes to your rack. We're again going to pull down on that lever and show you our next feature.

It's going to be our tilting our fold-up feature. This allows us to fold up our bike rack against our vehicle, which helps us to fit in close quarters situations like parking. We're only adding about 14" to our vehicle now. As for our hitch, this is designed to work with 2" hitches only. We have a pin and lock there. That's going to help to prevent theft and tampering of our bike rack. Here at the back we have our anti-rattle knob. When this is completely tightened up, it's going to keep a lot of shake and play out of the bike rack as you head down the road. That's going to be our completed look at the Kuat NV 2.0 Base platform-style 2-bike rack, part number BA22B, on our 2017 Ford Explorer. .
