Review of the Malone FoldAway-J Kayak Carrier with Tie Downs

Adam Hi everybody, Adam here with etrailer, today, we're going to be taking a look at the Malone FoldAway-J style Kayak Carrier. If you're looking to get your kayaks to and fro, this is definitely going to be one of the best options, in my opinion. Best options meaning, the adjustable J style Carriers. We own a lot of different ones on our website. Just grab the ones that you think looks the best. I like the color and the coat powder for the finish on these, and also, I just love how they're adjustable.

So if you have, multiple different kayaks that you plan on putting up on to your roof, it's going to be able to adjust to fit all of those, so it's nice and tight, so you don't really have to worry about something happening on the road. It comes with almost everything you really need to get it tied down. I do recommend grabbing the etrailer tie down kit. Just because it gives you everything you really need, and we're gonna need that, if you go with this specific carrier. Also, if you plan on putting it on multiple different vehicles, we have after market run-rack bars on now, but we have different hardware to fit even the skinnier, factory bars you may have.

Where I have it set up here, I'm gonna measure from the top of our bar to the top of the highest point. It's gonna be about 18 and 1/4 inches from the top of your bar. But we can go ahead and actually break that down a little bit. Let's just say you want to keep this up here because you go kayaking quite often. What we can do to kind of help with the fuel economy, and the noise that you might get with these being up on a roof.

Go ahead, and rotate it down, like this. And that is going to make it a lot more low profile. For those longer trips you may be taking, so, from the top of our bar to the highest point, which is going to be right here. It's going to be just shy of four inches. We have 38 inch bars on top of our Jetta here, and from the mounting point here, all the way to the edge, it's going to be about eight and a half inches.

So, we can definitely get two kayaks up on the smaller roof rack. All in all, I definitely enjoyed using this product. It's just like all the other adjustable, J style carriers. It comes with some of the straps, but you need to grab a little bit extra. But it is a one stop shop here at etrailer, so whatever you do decide that you need, we have it. Also, I would definitely recommend these, if you plan on putting multiple different kayaks on to your roof. With the adjustments that we can make, we can put actually two on our roof, which is awesome. Once everything's tied down, be sure to check and make sure everything's still nice and tight. And then if so, we're ready to hit the road. Again, this was the Malone FoldAway-J style folding Kayak Carrier..
