Review of the Pilot Round Tube Trailer Hitch Receiver Step

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Pilot Automotive Round Tube Stainless Steel Trailer Hitch Receiver Step for 2" Trailer Hitches, part number CR-600. The hitch step is going to allow access into our truck bed, or if you have an SUV or an minivan it's going to allow you to gain access to the rooftop accessories. You can see here that it sticks out from the vehicle's bumper, so it's going to act as a strong bumper guard as well. This hitch step is made with a round-tube design. It's going to add an attractive look to the rear of your vehicle. It's constructed from mirror-polished T-304 stainless steel. It's going to be very strong and very durable. It actually has a capacity of 350 pounds.

Then it's going to be topped with a nonslip high-impact plastic step that's going allow you to get some good traction, and you don't have to worry about slipping off your hitch step. The hitch step is a really easy installation. It's actually going to come with three 5/8" diameter holes. This is for multiple mounting options into your hitch. Those mounting holes are going to be located on the steel shanks, so again this is built for strength and durability. All you have to do is slide this into your 2" by 2" trailer hitch receiver. You're going to push it in to whatever hole you want lined up with the pin hole in your vehicle's hitch.

For our application today, we're wanting to choose that middle location. You could go all the way in, which is going to give you a little bit closer access or closer contact to the edge of your vehicle, or you can go to the middle location or the furthest out location to extend it further away from your vehicle. Once you have the pin holes lined up, you can take a standard 5/8" pin and clip or hitch pin and lock. There are sold separately. The only I'm using for our demonstration today is part number PC3. You can find that right here at

If you'd like to secure it and lock it inside the hitch you can use part number 7683. That's going to be your deadbolt pin and lock. Slide it in, secure it with the clip on the other side, and that's going to secure the hitch step and the receiver tube of your hitch. The overall width of the hitch step, measuring from edge to edge, is going to measure about 18" from this point here to this point here. Then the step pad, from edge to edge, is going to give us a measurement of about 9". Then it's going to give us an overall width or depth of about 2-5/8".

The stainless steel hitch step is going to have a diameter of 3". When installed, again, it has three mounting options, which is going to allow it go extend from 7" to 9". Another thing I want to point out about this hitch step is it gives us plenty of access to make our connections if we have any plugs at the rear of our vehicle. That's going to complete today's review of the Pilot Automotive Round Tube Stainless Steel Trailer Hitch Receiver Step for 2" Trailer Hitches, part number CR-600. .
