Review of the Rhino Rack Mountain Trail Bike Rack on a 2014 Nissan Rogue

Today on our 2014 Nissan Rogue, we're going to be test fitting the Rhino Rack Mountain Trail. This is a fork clamp style roof mounted bike rack. Its part number is RBC035. We've got our Thule Crossroad Roof Rack system that we've already installed on the Rogue, so we're going to being our test fit by placing the rack right up on to our load bars. Here at the front, we're going to bring the two black rubber coated metal straps around the underside. Then going to remove the cover, place that back out of the way for now, and we'll bring those straps around and fit them right up into the head of the carrier. We'll then tighten the single bolt that's located here in the front.

That simultaneously tightens both of the straps down, so it's going to save us a little bit of time, because we're just tightening one bolt here. Our rack's designed to fit a wide variety of bars. It'll fit square bars, round bars, the elliptical style bars, so no matter what roof rack you have, this Rhino Rack will fit it for you. Once we have that secure there, we'll bring our cover up, slide it rearward, and then press down to hold it in place. The rear, we've got two bolts, two wing nuts, and then the padded clamp, so we want to loosen up both of the wing nuts, and we'll remove one completely. Going to allow us to separate the clamp. We're going to bring one of the bolts right up to the front here, bring the lower portion of the clamp around the underside, place it back through the bolt, and thread our wing nut back on. We'll then just tighten them both down evenly.

It's going to bring the lower portion of the clamp up, grabbing onto our bar, and securing our rack. I'll come here to the rear wheel strap, undo that. I like to give it a little bend to help hold it up, and then we're going to open the front skewer and make sure it's loose enough to accept our forks. We'll then grab the bike, place it right up onto our rack. We guide the front forks down onto the front skewer. We're going to secure it here first.

One more. That's secure. We'll come to the rear wheel and secure it with our strap. Just like that, we've got our bike all loaded up and we're ready to hit the road. Take a quick look here at the rear to see what kind of clearance we have at the hatch.

The rack's not past the antenna, so I don't anticipate any interference being had. Yeah, as you can we, we got plenty of space there. Not going to have that hatch hitting the tire. With our bike and rack loaded up onto our 2014 Nissan Rogue, we're going to take the Rhino Rack Mountain Trail part number RBC035 out through our test course, so you can see what it looks like in action. Here on our test course, we'll start by going through the slalom. This is going to show us the side-to-side action. This simulates turning corners or evasively maneuvering. Once we get to the alternating speed bumps, we'll see the twisting action. This will simulate hitting a curb or pothole, or driving over uneven pavement. Once we get to the full speed bumps, we'll see the up and down action. This will be just like driving in and out of a parking lot, parking garage, or driveway. .
