Review of the Rhino-Rack XTray Pro Cargo Basket and 2 Bike Carrier

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Rhino Rack Xtray Pro Cargo Basket and two bike carrier, part number RRRMCB03.Bikes and gear, no problem. With the Rhino Rack Xtray Pro Cargo Basket. It allows you to carry two through-axle bikes with a full load of gear on the roof of your vehicle. This could be your helmet, shoes or any other gear like camping accessories. With all this gear you might be concerned about weight capacity. It'll hold 165 pounds.

Just be sure your vehicle can handle that much weight. Unlike some other cargo baskets, this one has a built in fairing. This is going to help cut down on that wind noise and drag when we're on the road.I've gone ahead and removed some gear so we could go over some additional features. It includes two 15 millimeter by 100 millimeter thru-axle adapters. Adapters are available separately for 15 millimeter by 110 millimeter, 15 millimeter by 150 millimeter, 15 millimeter by 100 millimeter and, finally, nine millimeter by 135 millimeter thru-axles.

Your bike's fork sits on the adapter, and then your bike's axle slides through the adapter holding it in place.For your rear wheel an included cam buckle strap holds it in place. We'll go ahead and remove this bike so we can take a closer look at the basket. Like most clamp-on accessories, it has a top plate and a bottom plate and it clamps around your roof rack system with the included hardware. Once everything is hand tightened, you can tighten it down the rest of the way with the included tool. And it's going to work with most roof rack systems, your round, square, aero, elliptical and most factory roof rack systems.When positioning on your crossbars, just be sure that it avoids contact with your rear hatch.

It's made out of a heavy duty steel construction so it's going to be durable. It also features a black powder coat finish so it's going to be resistant to corrosion.The nice thing about the tubular design is that you're going to have plenty of options for an anchor point, whether you're using a hook or a strap style.The exterior dimensions are 58 and a quarter inches long, 41 inches wide and six inches tall. The interior dimensions are 55 and three-quarters of an inch long, 39 and three-quarters of an inch wide and five inches tall.Another roof cargo basket that holds bikes is the Kuat Vagabond X. The Vagabond X also holds two bikes but it's designed for bikes with nine millimeter quick-release skewers. The Vagabond X can lock around your crossbars, where the Xtray cannot.

Both have built in fairings and a tubular steel design. The Xtray has a larger usable interior space. Of the two the Xtray is a more economical choice.Now we can take it out on our test course and see how it performs. Let's first go into our slalom. This is going to show side to side action such as going around corners or evasive maneuvering.Now onto some speed bumps. This is going to show us what it's like to hit some rough patches when we're on the road.And that's going to complete our look at the Rhino Rack Xtray Pro Cargo Basket and two bike carrier, part number RRRMCB03.

Tim L.
I’d like to buy this for my son but his current bike has a quick release front fork. Is there an adapter that goes from the modern through axle to the older quick release style?

You should be able to remove the quick-release skewer from your front wheel and reinsert it for the XTray. What size skewer does he have on his bike?

Reply from Tim L.

@JonG I think it is the standard road bike 130mm (maybe 135mm?).

@TimL I believe you're talking about a 9-mm x 135-mm sleeve like part # RRRBCA039 .
