Review of the Roadmaster Coiled SAFEty Cables
Today, we're going to review part number RN-643. This is a Roadmaster 68 inch, single hook coiled safety cables rated at 6,000 pounds. A few things to know about these cables, that they're created from airtight galvanized steel construction. It also uses drop forged steel hooks and spring loaded latches. In the cables themselves is a vinyl coating that keep from scratching and chipping at the tow bar. These are made in the USA.
Let's go ahead and try them out. Okay, let's go ahead and install our cables. We'll take the D ring here and unthread it. Now, you can either take it off, or leave it in place and we'll attach this part to our base plate. Now, you definitely want to take a wrench and give it maybe a quarter turn as well. All right, a simple adjustable wrench will work fine in this application.
Okay, now we'll go ahead and take our hook and run it to the opposite side on our hitch. Now, we already have D rings already installed here. You can also run it straight to the hitch. Let's go ahead and do the other side. Okay. Now, with our cables installed, you can see how the coils built in make it self-supporting.
Also, you want to make sure when you install our cables, that we crossed them. In just a moment, we have our safety cables installed and ready for a trip. Let's go ahead and take them for a short test drive and see how they work.
