Review of the Saris Freedom Hitch Bike Racks on a 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek

Today on our 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek we'll be doing a test fit on the Saris Freedom platform-style 2-bike rack. That's part number SA4412B. I've already got it loaded up on the Crosstrek just to give you a good idea of what it looks like and how it's going to secure our bikes. It actually secures our bikes in three spots. We have wheel straps for the front cradle and the back cradle here. We have, for our down tube, a cradle going over that and keeping our bike in place.

All in all, not a bad way to secure our bikes for a platform-style rack. Let's go ahead and undo our straps. We'll start by the cradles here, and we'll take off our bike. Then for our down tube here we'll just do the same thing. Press in on the button and then we can remove our bike. Now some people like to leave their straps undone.

That way they can easily load up their bike again. I'm going to go ahead and replace mine. I like to point out that it's a unique bike rack. It's going to work with a wide variety of bikes. The center cradles here can be adjusted all along the center mast here, and that the wheel cradles can be adjusted along the platform.

It's going to be a great bike rack. Let's take a couple measurements. We've added about 24" to the back of the Subaru. The space between, or where our bike will be positioned, about 12-1/2" from our bumper. Our ground clearance all in all for our bike rack, about 12-1/2". Now one nice things about this is that the center mast can be folded to the left or right so we can gain better access to our rear hatch.

We'll just pull out the t-pin, rotate it to the left or right, and then we can open up our rear hatch to remove any cargo, gear, groceries, anything we might have with us on our trip. Now our bike rack can be used for either 1-1/4" or 2" receivers. It includes a 2" adapter to work for a 2" receiver. It also includes an anti-rattle bolt and clip. The nice things about that is it's going to help reduce a lot of play and rattle within our receiver and our bike rack to make for a nice solid ride for our bikes. That's going to complete our test fit of the Saris Freedom platform-style 2-bike rack, part number SA4412B, on our 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek.Speaker 2: Here you see it out on our test course. First is the slalom, which shows the side to side action to simulate turning corners or evasive maneuvers. Next are the alternating speed bumps, which show you the twisting action such as hitting a pothole, road debris, or going over a curb. Finally, we will finish with the solid speed bumps, which show the up and down action to simulate a parking garage or coming out of a driveway.
