Review of the Saris Hitch Bike Racks on a 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek

Today on our 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek we'll be doing a test fit on the Saris Freedom platform-style 2-bike rack for fat bikes. That's going to be part number SA4412B-FB. We've already got it loaded up on our Subaru just to give you a good idea of what it looks like and how it's going to secure our bikes. It actually secures our bikes in three spots. We have a wheel strap going over our front wheel cradle there attaching into itself. Same thing for the rear.

Then for the center mast here we've got a cradle with a strap securing our down tube. Not only is it going to be ideal for fat tire bikes with tire widths up to 5" wide, it's going to work out for your road bike and/or mountain bikes as well. Let's go ahead and take our bike off. We'll start by undoing the wheel straps, get those loose. Then lastly for our center one here, same thing. Then we can get our bike free. Now some people like to leave their straps undone.

That way they can easily and quickly load up their bike when they're ready to go. I'm going to go ahead and replace mine. Now our wheel cradles are adjusted or can be adjusted all along the platform. The cradles here attached to the center mast can be adjusted up or down, it's it's going to fit a wide variety of bikes. It's a nice little bike rack for people that have two bikes. Let's go ahead and get a measurement.

We've added about 24" on the back of the Subaru. For the space in between, or where our bike will be sitting, about center about 12" away from our bumper, and about 12" of ground clearance underneath there. Now one nice thing about this bike rack is that the center mast can be tilted to the left or the right so we can gain better access to our rear hatch. We'll just pull out the yellow t-pin, turn it to the side. As you can see, got plenty of room to remove any cargo, gear, groceries, anything we might have with us on our trip. Now our bike rack can be used with either 1-1/4" or 2" receivers.

We've got our included adapter sleeve on there to work with our 2" receiver. It also includes an anti-rattle bolt and clip. The nice thing about that is it's going to reduce a lot of play and rattle within our hitch and our bike rack to make for a nice solid ride for our two bikes, and our fat bikes. That's going to complete our test fit on the Saris Freedom platform-style 2-bike rack for fat bikes, part number SA4412B-FB, on our 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek.Speaker 2: This is our test course. Let's start with the slalom. This shows side to side action such as turning corners or evasive maneuvering. Then onto our alternating speed bumps. This shows twisting action such as hitting curbs, potholes, road debris, or uneven pavement. Last of all, the speed bumps. This shows up and down action such as driving through a parking lot or parking garage, or driving in and out of a driveway.
