Review of the Swagman Contour Rooftop Kayak Carrier

Today were going to be taking a look at the Swagman Contour J-style roof top kayak carrier part #: S6518. One of the great features of the Contour is its J-style. This means you can install it on the far side of your bars on the driver or passenger side for easier loading and unloading. This also means the remaining space of your roof rack is open for other accessories such as a bike rack or cargo box. This will work on round, square, arrow, elliptical and most factory crossbars. The Contour has pads on the top and bottom part of the J which cushion your kayak and prevent it from being damaged during travel.

It also has a soft rubber padding on the bottom which will help keep your kayak in place and provides more cushioning. It comes with two sets of straps which will secure it to your vehicle, one for the kayak to the roof rack and one for the balance stern of your vehicle. This rack has a durable steel construction with a black powder coat finish which will resist rust and corrosion and comes with a limited lifetime warranty. Now well go ahead and show you how to install it. The Contour comes preassembled, so all you need for the installation is to remove one of these wing nuts and loosen the other.

Once this is done well place the Contour onto our roof rack and swing the bottom bracket around the underside of the rack to the other silver bolt. Now we can reattach the wing nut and tighten them both down. Well repeat this process for the front bar. Since weve gone over some of the features and specs of the Contour well show you how to install a kayak. we'll first take the straps that secure the kayak around the bars and wrap them around the back side of the J.

On the back side of the buckle theres a soft rubber pad that will help protect your vehicle from getting scratched. With our straps in place well lift our kayak up into position. Then well take our straps and wrap them around the back side of our kayak. After that well bring the strap around the underside of our bar. Well then insert the end into the buckle, pressing down on the tab so that the strap will come through.

Well then pull it tight to secure the front part of our kayak to the front bar. Well then repeat this process for the rear strap. With that done well now attach our balance stern tie-down straps. Well start on the underside of the vehicle. Well be looking for a sturdy structure to put the hook through. After finding it well bring this rope up to the connection point of our kayak. Well take the rope and insert it into this loop and pull it snug. Now we can secure the rope. Well repeat this for the rear. When you connect the hook underneath youll want to make sure to avoid any hot spots like the exhaust. Now that the kayak is secured well take it out on the road for a test drive and show you how it looks. And there you have it for part #: S6518, the Swagman Contour kayak carrier. .
