Review of the Swagman Hitch Bike Racks on a 2012 Toyota Prius

Today on our 2012 Toyota Prius we'll be doing a test fit of the Swagman XC Platform Style 2-Bike Rack. That's part number S64650. I've already got it loaded up on the Prius just to give you a good of what it's going to look like. It secures our bike in one spot and that's going to be this frame hook here. It goes over our top tube, puts down-pressure into the two wheel cradles, that's our front and rear. Let's go ahead and take our bike off. We're going to raise this front hook up out of the way. That's going to make room for our rear hook.

Then we can take our bike off. It's always a good idea to go ahead and replace any straps or any hooks that way you don't damage or lose them. Let's take a measuremnt. We've added about 22 inches to the back of the Prius. Our ground clearance about 14-1/2 inches. The space between, about where our bike is going to be, we've got about 10 inches here.

Now I'd like to point out that the center mast folds to the left or right side so we can gain better access to our trunk. We'll just pull the pin out, rotate it to one side, go ahead and reinsert that pin, that way it stays in one spot. As you can see, we can open up our trunk. We don't have to worry about it running into our hook. We can remove any cargo, gear, groceries, anything we might have with us on our trip. That's one way that you can stow it or drive around town if you like, with it in there.

Let's go ahead and show you another way. We'll go ahead and bring that center mast back up. This time we're going to actually fold the platform up. We'll come over here to these two pins out towards the arms, we'll rotate it up, realign the holes there. This can be better known as the suitcase position.

This would be a good way to store it in your garage, or wherever. Just go ahead and tighten it up so we're not moving around a whole lot. Just to give you an idea, that's one way you can stow it. Our bike rack can be used for either 1-1/4 or 2 inch receivers. We've got our adapter sleeve removed so we can work it with our 1-1/4 inch receiver. It also includes an anti-rattle bolt and clip. The nice thing about the anti-rattle bolt is it's going to help reduce a lot of that play and rattle within our receiver and our bike rack to make for a nice solid ride for our two bikes. That's going to complete our test fit of the Swagman XC Platform Style 2-Bike Rack, part number S64650, on our 2012 Toyota Prius. This is our test course. Let's start with the slalom. This shows side-to-side action such as turning corners or evasive maneuvering. Then onto our alternating speed bumps. This shows twisting action such as hitting curbs, potholes, road debris, or uneven pavement. Last of all, the solid speed bumps. This shows up and down action such as driving through a parking lot, or parking garage, or driving in and out of a driveway.
