Review of the Thule Roof Basket on a 2017 Subaru Outback Wagon

Speaker 1: Today, on our 2017 Subaru Outback, we're going to be doing a test of the Thule Canyon XT roof mounted cargo basket. Part number TH859XT. The Thule Canyon is a premium roof basket for your Subaru Outback. It features a stylish faring. It's also going to help cut down on wind noise and drag. The wedge shape design is going to make loading and unloading into your basket easy. It's going to allow you to free up space inside your Subaru by allowing you to put it on your roof.

The tubular style is going to work with most straps so you can anchor down your cargo, whether you're using the hook or strap style. The dimensions are 49 inches long, 40 inches wide, and it's 6 inches deep at the highest point. It has 150 pound weight capacity, though you'll want to be sure and check with your Subaru's owner's manual to see if your roof can carry that much. We've got it attached to our Subaru's factory roof rack system, but it's also going to work with your round, square, arrow, and elliptical roof rack systems.I've already got three clamps installed. Let's go ahead and do the last one together. Now, you want to be sure and measure out your cross bar spacing and position your plates on your roof basket before you load the whole thing up on your Subaru.

You want to measure center on center, so as you can see we've got our plate positioned centered over our cross bar. Then we can install our included U-bolt.We're going to go underneath and come up through the two openings. We'll hold it in place, and then we're going to install some lock washers. Once those are installed, we'll take our gray hand knobs and get those started. Then we can tighten those up evenly.

Once it's nice and tight we can then take our included cover, and this is going to cover up our hardware so it can't be tampered with. Each one of our covers does feature a plastic locking core. Now, you can upgrade to the metal Thule locking core, so part number TH544. That's a set of four, so we can lock our whole roof basket down. To install these, we've got a notched end here. We'll clip it on the side of our plate, and then we'll push it around, then turn it to lock it.With the whole roof basket installed, as you can see, it's not going anywhere.

We're ready to load up some of our gear, and hit the road. That's going to complete our test fit of the Thule Canyon XT roof mounted cargo basket, part number TH859XT on our 2017 Subaru Outback wagon.
