Review of the Thule Hitch Bike Racks on a 2020 Land Rover Velar

Hey, everyone. It's Colln here at etrailer and today we have a 2020 Range Rover Velar. Now, we're going to go ahead and do a test fit of this Thule Helium 1 Bike Platform Rack. This is really nice and simple rack that also looks really good on our Range Rover. Allows us to get one bike loaded so we can haul it to and from our destination. Great thing about it is that there's no frame contact with our bike. We just got two of these arms that are securing our tires.

We'll get a nice carbon fiber mountain bike right here. Definitely don't want any frame contact it, that could scuff it up or damage it in any way. Now, just like a lot of other platform racks, we can tilt it away just by pulling the handle that's underneath right there. Then we can come to the trunk, open it up with no issues, so we can slide in here, grab whatever tools we might need, cargo, maybe even some biking equipment. Now we're tilting it back up. Go ahead and grab a hold of the bike rack itself and just lift up until it locks into place. We do have an included cable lock.

Comes out from the right side of the platform. Just wrap it around the frame of your bike, and it locks back into itself just like that. Nice and simple way for you to lock your bike up. And then it is going to be a great theft deterrent. And then it just stores right into the platform, so that it's out of sight, out of mind.

You're not going to need it, or it's going to be there when you need it, and it's not going to get in the way or you're not going to risk losing it, because it's integrated onto the bike rack. Now, I'm going to go ahead and unload the bike rack, or unload the bike, excuse me. Just fold those arms down. Pretty simple. To get it installed just like that, we can unload our bike. Now when you're all done, I'll usually like to bring these arms, put them all the way down just like that for storage. Now, with any hitch mounted accessory, you are going to have added length to your vehicle.

In the case of our Velar, we're going to measure from the bumper to the outermost point. It's about 14 and a half inches. And we can cut down on that space if you need to park in a garage or something just to conserve a little bit of space. There is a fold-up option. However, with our Range Rover, it does make contact right there. So, the only time I would tell you guys to use this is if you just need to conserve on space for a parking spot or just somehow you're going to be stationary. If you do, I would highly advise not to travel with it in this position. But, if we look from right here, so let's say you've got a really small garage and it's just barely not fitting and you don't want to have to unload your bike rack, well, you can just fold it up, take away a little bit of that length. It's about eight inches now. So we did take away some of that length. And again, if when you plan on traveling, make sure you pull it back down just like that.Go ahead and check our ground clearance on it. Looking at about 24 and a half inches right there, so she'll be plenty. Nothing to worry about as far as bottoming out. Now, let's come down and see how it attaches to our hitch. This is a two inch by two inch hitch receiver. You can see this silver sleeve on the bottom, we can actually remove that to make the shank compatible with inch and a quarter hitches. So it will work for multiple vehicles in your household. Our anti-rattle system comes back here. It's this tightening knob. Once we secure that all the way, that takes away the shake and play from our bike rack while we're traveling, so it's not going to be rattling around at all when we have a bike installed and traveling.Well, everyone, that's just going to do it for a look at the Thule Helium 1 Bike Rack on our 2020 Range Rover Velar.
