Review of the Thule Ladder Racks on a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Speaker 1: Today in our 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, we're going to be doing a test fit on the Thule Xporter Pro adjustable height ladder rack, part number TH500xt.Now this ladder rack is very useful for carrying elongated loads above the bed of your pickup without having to open up your tailgate and let it hang out. It's also going to free up space on the inside of your bed for other tools or gear, whatever you might have. You can also extend it above your cab a good amount, to carry those very long ladders, or lumber, anything like that. We also have these load stops that are in the T-tracks on top of the crossbars. All you've got to do is loosen up these hand knobs, and you can adjust the load stop to kind of sandwich your load between the two and then tighten it back down.Like I said, they do work in these T-channels. That's also going to let you know that you can utilize any type of carrier, such as a kayak carrier on top of our crossbars. If you have the type where it straps around your crossbar, you might need to pick up an adaptor kit due to the thickness of these crossbars, they're a little bit thicker than your traditional Thule AeroBlade roof rack system. The height of these crossbars is adjustable.

You can do this yourself if you're in the bed of the pickup like I am, or if you're on the side you might want an extra hand. All you have to do is loosen these two hand knobs, there's one right here on this side, and there's another one right over here. Once you loosen them both, you're going to adjust it to whatever height you want. Whether you want it taller or shorter, and then you can tighten those back up, and put your load on.The weight capacity is 450 pounds, so you can put a pretty hefty load on top, and you'll be all right. Each cross bar is held in place by four clamps, two of them are right here on this side.

It comes under our bed rail cap right there, and clamps down. It has a little plate on the inside that's kind of squeezing up under the bed rail. We do have this nice rubber pad right here, that's sitting in between the bed rail cap and the base of our crossbar. That's kind of more of a safety measure so that we don't damage our bed rail cap at all.Over here, we're going to see that we do have a lock on this clamp right here. Two of the clamps are going to have this locking feature so you want to try and put one of those clamps on each leg, on each crossbar.

It's a nice security feature so no one can remove the clamp, thus removing your ladder rack without that key.Now I'm going to go ahead and install the last set of clamps for you. First we're going to grab our little rubber pad. I'm going to set it under our crossbar base right here, we're just going to pick up on the rack, and then slide it under and then we can set it back down. Once you've done that, I'm going to pick up our clamp. Now keep in mind, these little plates right here are pretty loose, they don't screw onto the bolt right there, so you just have to set it on.

You just want to be careful when placing it on your bedrail. So we're just going to take the bottom first, set it under like that, then slide it right on.From there, we're going to go ahead and tighten it with our fingers first. Once you have it tight with your fingers on both clamps . you want to make sure you get them both. Just a lot faster than having to grab your Allen key. Once you've done that, we'll grab our 7/32 Allen key that's on our socket wrench and tighten it the rest of the way down. We want to put it on tightened first. There we go. Once you've tightened both sides down, give the rack a quick shake and make sure it's tight. All the clamps are good. And then the last thing you want to do is grab your lock, and slide it on right there, and we'll lock it into place, just like that. Now with the rack fully installed, I'm going to go ahead and grab a ladder and throw it up there to show you what it looks like. You can come from the back and then just slide it up, just like that. Now I'll show you how to use the load stops real quick, once we get that up. We'll go ahead and loosen up our load stop, push it all the way like that. You see how it sandwiched right here, I want to tighten that down, like that. You do that on both sides. There we go. That's going to keep it from sliding from side to side, but we want to make sure it doesn't bounce up and down, either. So we get a couple of straps, we'll go ahead and strap it down. If you don't have any straps, you can pick up a set of two way load straps right here at you've got that tightened down, just tie away your excess. There we go. Now we'll grab one more strap for the back. There we go. Once we've got that we'll put it back in the clamp. Just like that and again, tie away your excess. With our ladder loaded, we're ready to go ahead and hit the road, and get to whatever job site we need to get to. That'll do it for our look at the Thule Xporter Pro adjustable height ladder rack on our 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.
