Review of the Thule Roof Basket on a 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek

Today on our 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek, we're going to be test fitting the Thule Canyon XT roof-mounted cargo basket, part number TH859XT. This measures about 49 inches long by 40 inches wide by 6 inches tall at its highest point. It also has a carrying capacity of 150 pounds, although you want to double check with your vehicles manual to make sure your roof can withstand that kind of weight. Coming to the back here, with where it's mounted, we're not going to have any clearance issues with our hatch and the cargo basket itself. Now, how this clamps on, we actually have these metal u-bolts here that will clamp around your factory or your aftermarket roof rack. This can fit around a wide variety of bars from aero to elliptical to factory to round or square. You may have to ...

now it comes with a wide variety of u-bolts so you can switch them out accordingly to each bar. Let's go ahead and show you how the last one goes on. We're going to be here on the passengers side and I would like to note real quick here, that these mounts are adjustable. All you have to do is loosen these two bolts here and here and you can adjust them along the rack as needed. We'll take our u-bolt with the knobs already installed. You want to make sure that these washers here stay on the top here.

Let's bring that around and slide them into place like so and then just tighten them down. Some things you can actually put in this cargo basket, it's a wide variety of things from camping gear to luggage to sporting equipment. Stuff you want to keep out of the vehicle in case it's wet or if you just need to have more space for you and your family. It also has a nice aerodynamic shape to it as well as an included fairing and that's going to cut down on the wind noise an drag while you're driving. Our final step is to put this plastic piece over the top here and secure it. Push that into place and then turn this and you can actually take this out and replace it with the Thule lock core, so you can actually secure this to the roof rack of your vehicle. There you have it for the Thule Canyon XT roof-mounted cargo basket part number TH859XT on our 2014 Subary XV Crosstrek..

Chris
Hello!I hope this isn’t too redundant but this rack fits on the Subaru stock aero bars right? Says it does up top. I just bought a 2020 crosstrek a few hours ago and the parts guy said it wouldn’t fit on the aero bars. Sounded like bullshit to me to be honest. Thoughts?Thank you!
