Review of the Thule Roof Basket on a 2015 Honda CR-V

Today on our 2016 Honda CRV we're doing a test fit of the Thule Canyon XT Roof Mounted Cargo Basket. That part number is TH859XT. Now this is 49" long by 40" wide by 6" deep, and has a 150 pound weight capacity. Although it does have that weight capacity you do want to double check with your vehicle's owner's manual to make sure it can withstand that much weight. Now we already have three of our four brackets in place and secured down. We're going to show you how to do the last one here on our passenger side. To adjust our brackets that are already installed we just loosen up those two bolts with our Thule tool or an Allen key that will fit that.

We've adjusted it and tightened it back down. What's great about that is it's going to fit different crossbar spreads. Then we have four different ways to secure your cargo basket to your roof rack. We've got three different sized u-bolts and then we have the option to do a channel mounted as well. All of those pieces will come with the kit to secure this in place. So we have our u-bolt, we've got a washer under each of our wing nuts, and then we have our wing nuts.

We're just going to tighten those down. What's great about having those different applications is that it is going to fit many different size crossbars like our factory ones here. It's going to fit most factory as well as round, square, aero, and elliptical bars. So this is just going to free up space inside your cargo area, allow you to carry more gear whether that's sporting equipment, camping gear, or luggage. So we're going to be aerodynamic using that fairing that's included and installed on the front of our basket, making that an aerodynamic shape and reducing wind noise and drag. There are also many different tie down points on our basket.

We do have straps available on our site as well to secure everything in place. Once those are tightened down we can take our included cover. I'm just going to fit this over the top and it might be a little difficult to lock that down. We do have the option of using a flat blade screwdriver, and that makes it a little more easy to secure in place. We can also pop those out and use metal lock cores that are available on our site as well. With that completely tightened down we'll check our hatch. We'll see we're not going to make any contact with the door or that antenna that's there, so we can keep everything in place and won't have to worry about not being able to get anything in or out of the back if we need to.

So now that we have our basket secured down we can load up our gear and secure that down as well, and we're ready to hit the road. That's going to be our completed look at the Thule Canyon XT Roof Cargo Basket, part number TH859XT on our 2015 Honda CRV.
