Today, on our 2016 Toyota RAV4, we're going to be doing a test fit on the Thule Canyon XT Roof-Mounted Cargo Basket. That's part number TH859XT. I've already got it loaded up on the RAV4 just to give you a good idea of what it looks like. It measures 49" long, by 40" wide, and 6" deep at the center here. Like always, when you've got something on the roof of your vehicle, it's always good to make sure that you can still open up your rear hatch. By the way we have it positioned on our roof rack system, we're not going to have that problem. Just keep that in mind. A few things to know about this roof-mounted basket.
It has a low-profile wedge shape to it, so it's going to make loading and unloading cargo easy. It's made out of a tubular steel construction design. Up here we've got a fairing that's going to reduce that wind noise and drag while we're on the road. It had a 150 pound weight capacity, though you'll want to be sure and check with your vehicle's owner's manual to see if you can carry that much. All in all it's going to allow us to get the cargo out of our vehicle and get it up on top of the roof of our vehicle, but with a little bit of style. I've already got three clamps in place.
Let's go ahead and do the fourth one together. I'd like to say that this is going to work with a wide variety of roof-rack systems. Your round, square, arrow, elliptical, and most factory roof rack systems. I'll go ahead and grab my hardware here. Now you're going to get three sets of clamps to work with different thicknesses of crossbars.
You're also going to get T-bolts for your T-slot if you'd like to mount it that way. What we want to do is you want to choose the correct clamp for the bottom, bring it underneath your crossbar, and up through the bracket. You'll also want to put two flat washers down before you put your thumb screws. Once you've got it in place, go ahead and take those and get those started. One other thing that's a good idea to do, the brackets here, when you get your roof rack system up onto your RAV4, you want to measure the distance between the two, and then go ahead and preset your brackets on your roof basket, then load it up. That way, all you have to do is get your clamps set in, and then you've got it.
You want to be sure and tighten these down evenly. Once you've done that, we'll take our cap. The nice thing about this is it's designed to hide our hardware so nobody can tamper with it. You can replace the plastic lock cores with some Thule locking cores, and they're all keyed alike. You can pick up 4 with part number TH544. Now we're ready to hit the road. Load up some cargo and you'll be on your way. That's going to complete our test fit on the Thule Canyon XT Roof-Mounted Cargo Basket, on our 2016 Toyota RAV4.
