Review of the Thule Truck-Bed-Bike Racks on a 2014 Ram 1500

Today, on our 2014 Ram 1500, we're going to be taking a look at the Thule Gate Mate. This is a padded tailgate cover that'll also act as a bike rack. Its part number is TH824. To begin our test fit, we're going to place the Gate Mate right up over our tailgate. This is the one designed for the wider width, so it's 62" wide. As you'll see, we're going to have 3 straps hanging off the front of it. These straps need to be fed around the underside of our tailgate, and we'll fit them into the clips that are on the backside.

I like to get the middle one done first. That'll help you hold the pad in place. Access your tailgate level back here or your tailgate handle. You've got a nice, large opening, so we'll pull that open. We'll tuck our strap under the middle here. When we pull this down, we should be able to see it.

There we go. Now bring it right up to here. Slide that through to 00:01:13 the other side, and we can cinch that down. With that in place, we've got it held where we want it. We can now lower the tailgate down fully, and we'll take care of our other 2 straps here.

There we go. Ya da 00:02:03. We're going to go above the bar first and then back down through. That'll give us that cinch action to hold that in place, keep it from backing out. Bring our third one through here. Now that we've got that in place, we'll take out any slack if we need to just by pulling down on our 3 black straps here. We can then load up our bike.

The rear end's going to go in the vehicle first. Turn our handlebars sideways and set it right down in there. This makes it really easy to quickly transfer bikes back and forth. That will complete today's test fit of the Thule Gate Mate, part number TH824, onto our 2014 Ram 1500. .
