Review of the Westin Truck Pal Fold Up Bed Ladder

Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Westin Truck-Pal Fold-Up Bed Ladder, part number 10-3000. This universal compact ladder will install on any tailgate, allowing you easy access to your truck bed. It's compact design maximizes available space. It's constructed of a light-weight aluminum with an alloy finish, and it has a 300 pound weight capacity. It measures roughly 17 inches across. The ladder extends from the tailgate to the floor 44 inches, and you need to make sure you have at least 38 inches from the tailgate to the ground in order for it to install correctly. Now that we've gone over the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed.

First thing we'll do is we'll undo our little latch here, then we can start extending it out. We're going to lift up on our bracket and turn it all the way over like this, and then we'll get it into position on our tailgate. Now in placing our bracket on our tailgate, we need to make sure that we're at least 3 inches from our left or right side on our tailgate, whichever we decide to use, and we need to make sure we're at least 2 inches down from the top. I'm going to place mine right about here, then we're going grab our tape measure and make sure we are where we need to be. So I'm going to come over 3 inches. I'll make sure I'm down from the top of the tailgate about 2 inches.

That looks pretty close. Now we'll go ahead and mark the holes out. I'm using a pain marker here, that way we can see it on the back of the tailgate. Just going to go center. Then I can remove the ladder. Now it does come with self-tapping screws, but I'm going to go ahead and drill the pilot hole just to make it a little easier to get them started because I've got a bed liner here. Now let's replace our ladder and bracket and make sure that everything lines up nice.

All right, I'd say that looks pretty good. Now we can take our included bit and our screws and start putting those in. Now, I'm not going to put them all the way in tight just yet because I want to make sure that my tailgate will close so I can adjust it from side-to-side as you can see here. So let's loosely install them. Now with those loosely installed, I'll go ahead and fold up the ladder and close my tailgate and make sure it's in position correctly. Don't forget to do your latch.

We'll fold up our tailgate. I'd say it looks pretty good. Let's go ahead and tighten them the rest of the way down. Now let's try it out. Works great. That's going to complete our look at the Westin Truck-Pal Fold-Up Bed Ladder, part number 10-3000.

Will this install without issue on a 2014 Ram with Rambox?

This is a universal fit type of product and really the only criteria is that the tailgate on your truck needs to sit 38" or less from the ground for it to work. Is the tailgate on a truck with the RamBox much different than a Ram that doesn't have the RamBox?

I have a Chevy Avalanche. Will this unit work on my tailgate. WITHOUT major alterations?

Since this is a universal fit product you should be just fine as far as fitment goes (although we haven't installed this on a Chevy Avalanche). Aside from drilling into your tailgate for the installation you shouldn't have any other alterations. The only other thing I can think of is if you have some kind of drop-in-style liner on your tailgate. In that case you'll need to make a cutout that matches the mounting bracket so that it sits properly against your tailgate.
