How to Install the Yakima Control Tower Roof Rack on a 2013 Mazda 5

Today on our 2013 Mazda5 we're going to be test fitting the Yakima Control Towers Roof Rack System using the 48" round bars, part numbers Y00408, Y00214, Y00233, and Y00233 again. To begin our test fit we'll remove the black covers over our fixed mounting points and check the threads to be sure they're clean. We'll now take one of our foot packs and place it by each of our four mounting locations. We'll now grab our four bolts. On these bolts we'll want three regular washers and one black rubber washer. The rounded part will be facing down.

We'll place it down through the foot of our rack and thread it into our fixed mounting locations. We'll snug it down to be sure we have no movement, but we won't fully tighten it yet. We'll then repeat that same process for the three remaining feet. We'll now grab the front portion of our bar; we're going to line it up with our front foot packs, and also take a look to be sure we have even bar overhang on each side. We'll then tighten the Allen bolt located on the right side of each control tower to be sure that our control towers do not move on our bar. Be sure that the black levers are able to close.

We'll then remove our front bar and repeat that same process for the rear bar. We'll then go around to our foot packs and firmly tighten each one of them down. With these secure, we'll grab our front bar again, slide it into the foot packs, and secure it in place by closing the black covers. We'll then grab our rear bar and repeat that same process. A great feature of this Control Towers Roof Rack System is your ability to remove the rack from your vehicle without removing your foot packs. They have black plastic covers that we can clip on with our bars removed to keep our hardware out of the elements.

That's going to complete today's test fit of the Yakima Control Towers Roof Rack System using part numbers Y00408, Y00214, Y00233, and Y00233 again. This is on our 2013 Mazda5. .
