Review of the Yakima FullSwing Hitch Bike Racks on a 2013 Kia Sorento


Today on our 2013 Kia Sorento we'll be doing a test fit on the Yakima's Full Swing Four Bike Rack. That's part number Y02465. I've already got it loaded up on the Sorento just to give you a good idea of what it looks like and how it holds our bikes. I'd like to point out that it is a hanging style bike rack. It's one of the few hanging style bike racks that has the ability to move out of the way so we can gain access to our rear hatch with the bikes loaded. What we want to do is we'll undo our lever here. It's going to seem like it want to come all the way out, that's where we want it.

Then we're going to pull up on our red pin here, that's going to allow that center mass to start swinging out. Then we can start rotating it. We want to make sure that that pin snaps into place. Just like that. Then we can finish rotating it out to the side of the vehicle.

We'll want to make sure that this one here snaps into place. Then as you can see, got plenty of room to remove any cargo, gear, groceries, anything we might have with us on our trip. To put it back into place, pretty simple, press down on the red button here, start to circle around and we can lift up on the red pin again. Bring it back around and then push it into place. Want to make sure that that red pin re-engages and then we'll also want to be sure to tighten up that black lever. All right.

A few features to know about this bike, or excuse me, this bike rack is that it has an integrated cable lock here at the back so we can add some more security in keeping our bikes on our rack. It also includes a wheel strap, so it's going to help secure that front wheel if we we're just to be carrying one bike. The dual arms are rubber coated so we don't have to worry about scratching up our bikes when we're on the road. We also have these really easy to use zip strips to make loading and unloading easy. Our bikes are secured in three points.

We've got two zip strips for our top tube and one for our seat post tube. This is going to be our anti-sway cradle here. Its going to help prevent bike to bike contact as well as bike to vehicle contact and bike to bike rack contact. Let's go ahead and take our bike off. We're going to squeeze in on the two grey tabs on either side, then we can remove our bike. Go ahead and replace these so I don't lose them. Then we can take a measurement. From the bumper of my Sorento we've added about thirty-six inches to the back. Nice thing is the arms fold down when not in use. We'll lift up on the red lever here, rotate it down. This would be ideal for parallel parking or pulling in a close quarter parking spot or even in your garage. We've got about ten inches on the back now. The space between, we've got about and inch and a half from our Sorento to our lever here. Still plenty of room to work with it, we don't have to worry about it making contact. Ground clearance we're looking at about eleven inches. This full swing is meant for two inch by two inch receivers only. That's what we've got here. It has a nice auto-pin design which engages automatically when we have it lined up with our pin holes. If we wish to remove it, it's very easy as well. We're going to press in on this grey button here and then we can fold out. Once our auto-pin is engaged we'll make our way back here to our speed knob. By tightening this up clockwise it's going to help reduce a lot of play and rattle within our receiver and our bike rack to make for a nice solid ride for our four bikes. As you can see I'm shaking the vehicle there, not a whole lot of movement in the bike rack. That's going to complete our test fit on the Yakima Full Swing Four Bike Rack, part number Y02465 on our 2013 Kia Sorento.Speaker 2: Here is it on our test course. We'll start by going though the slalom. This is going to show us the side to side action which simulates turning corners or evasive maneuvers. Next we're at the alternating speed bumps which we'll see the twisting action. This will simulate hitting a curb or pothole or driving over uneven pavement. Finally we have the full speed bumps where we'll see the up and down action which is just like driving out of a parking lot, garage, or driveway.
