Review of the Yakima Hitch Bike Racks on a 2020 Hyundai Palisade

Evangeline: Hi, it's Evangeline from etrailer.com and today we are looking at our Yakima BackRoad four-bike hanging style rack here on our 2020 Hyundai Palisade. Now, what's great about this bike rack is that it can carry four of your bikes, it has a nice design feature to keep them safe from scuffs and scratches, and its cradles are a good ways apart so your bikes aren't tangled up while you're driving around. The way the bike is mounted to our bike rack here are at three mounting points, so one, two and three. This third one right here is the anti-sway cradle, so it greatly reduces the sway of our bike while we are driving around. To take it off, what you need to do is press in the levers and then pull the ZipStrips out, so one, two and three. You can put them in your pocket or in your glove box when you're out for a ride. I'll just put them on there for now.

Once they're out, you just lift your bike up and through the rack, then you're ready to go. If you take a look at the cradles here, as I put our ZipStrips back in, you can notice that there's rubber on the bottom as well as grooves for your brake line and there's rubber padding on the top. That's just to protect your bike's frames from scuffs and scratches. To mount them, you just push it back in and that really secures your bike's frame to the rack. That's a very nice feature. Another feature of the arms of this bike rack are the ends.

We have here an integrated cable lock, and this has the same keys as our hitch lock, which I will show you later. On this side, we also have the bottle opener, so that's a nice touch. Let's see exactly how much length it adds to our Palisade here. Just something to keep in mind, when you are backing into your garage or into a tight space, the length added from our back bumper here to the end of our rack is 46 inches, so that's a fair amount of space, but if you're carrying around four bikes, that's something you have to consider. To inaudible 00:02:32 the arms down, you just need to lift up this lever. If you have difficulty with it, it helps to lift up the arms, then it goes down.

Let's see how much length it adds when you fold down the arms. From the back of our bumper again, to the back of our straps here of our wheel cradles, it is 16 inches, so that's a big difference. This the form you want it to take when you are driving around and you don't want to have too much extra space. Let's look down here at the bottom for ground clearance. Our ground clearance here is about 10 inches, so that's just something to keep in mind when you're driving up a steep driveway or up a hill at this real good amount of space. Our hitch here, so this bike rack fits into inch and a quarter and two inch wide hitch receivers.

It has an adapter sleeve that allows you to fit that into different types of hitches. It comes with this anti-rattle bolt and this lock. This is key to the cable, and as you can see, with this anti-rattle bolt, I try to shake it as hard as I can and it's not going anywhere, which is awesome. If you want to access the hatch of your Palisade, you can tilt it forward. To do so, you just lift up here. It's nice and easy. That brings it down, stops itself and let's check if we can open our trunk, and yes we can. With this up here and this tilted down, you can access your hatch, get whatever you need. Please note that you need to have your bikes off of your rack if you want to tilt it down. That's the best position to keep everything safe. To push it up, all you need to do is push it up and it snaps into place. All right. My final thoughts about this bike rack is I love how it looks on our Palisade here. If you want to have a great day and go out on an adventure and bring your bikes with you, this is a quick and easy way to just hitch it into your car and drive around. I also like how it's designed just to take care of your bikes. You have a great car and you want a great bike rack as well that takes care of your things. With all that in mind, I think it's a great bike rack, carries four bikes and it carries them very well. That was a look at the Yakima BackRoad four-bike hanging style rack here on our 2020 Hyundai Palisade.
