Review of the Yakima MegaWarrior Extra Large Roof Rack Cargo Basket

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Yakima Mega Warrior Extra Large Roof Rack Cargo Basket, part number Y07080. The Yakima Mega Warrior is a versatile cargo basket that can carry a wide variety of accessories, ranging from your luggage, to camping gear, to sporting goods equipment, and thanks to the load bar that's included in the center of it you can actually mount Yakima accessories to it as well. Here we have a bike rack, but you can also connect kayak carriers, ski and snowboard carriers, and you can even carry spare tires with this using part number Y07076, which is sold separately. To secure our cargo we're using the cargo net specifically for the Mega Warrior. This is part number Y07081. Also sold separately. Other accessories you can use with this include the High Lift Jack Bracket, part number Y07077.

The Light Mounting Bracket, part number Y07075, and the Axel Shovel Bracket, part number Y07078. The accessories for this roof basket can be used with either the Mega Warrior, or the Load Warrior. The Mega Warrior features a fairing that comes long with, and this is going to help cut down wind noise and drag while you're driving. While this can carry a wide variety of accessories and luggage, always be sure you don't overdo it with the weight. The basket itself does have a carrying capacity of 130 pounds, but you always want to double check with your vehicle's manual to make sure that it can withstand those weights, and that your bars can withstand those weights as well. In this particular case with everything loaded up we're also not going have any issues of clearance between our hatch, and the bike rack, or the cargo basket itself. The Mega Warrior is easy to install using a clamp-on style.

However, you can also purchase the locking brackets, part number Y07064, to secure this to your roof as well. They do use the same key system compatible locks. The basket itself is made from a galvanized steel construction, and it has a powder coat on it which is corrosion resistant. With the accessory bar you can carry up to four bikes, or two bikes and one kayak, or one canoe, or two bikes and a Yakima Big Powder Hound, which is the ski and snowboard carrier, or up to three kayaks and one bike. Now while we have the load bar in this position, it is moveable by loosening up this screw on both sides, and just moving it to whatever desired position you need. Now that we've gone over some of the features of the cargo basket let's go ahead and show you how it installs. First though, I would like to show you everything that comes with the kit once you get.

We've already assembled the cargo basket itself, but as far as the pieces to actually attach it to your vehicle, you'll see them laid out here. Now we're ready to place it on our roof rack. We'll set it down in the general vicinity, and push the rest of it into place. There is a cross bar recommendation for this roof rack, and it's going to be between 30" from center to center to 38" from center to center. So I'll adjust it accordingly, because we want these in between portions here to match up with our cross bars.

It looks like they do. Next I'm going to go up to the front and make sure that it's even side to side. At first glance we can scooch this a little bit towards the left, then we're going to be ready to tighten this down. To start off we'll put our support brackets in place. Now, you want to make sure that this end here goes underneath the bar. So I'll lift up a little bit, kind of push it into place, push it in, and we'll repeat this for the other connection points. Next we'll install our cover bracket, making sure that this end here goes over our support bar in the middle. It should sit like so and then we'll repeat this for our other connection points. Next we'll install the bottom part of our bracket, and our bolts and turn knobs. I want you to note though though that there's going to be a slotted portion here, and a square portion here, and to match up the screws corresponding that. So this will be pushed in that area, while this would be pushed through with the T going in between that like so. So we'll push this through the bottom, going through both brackets like so, and we'll loosely attach our knob here at the top. Then we'll finish tightening these up, and once it's tightened down to where we need it we'll repeat this process for our other connection points. Now that we have our cargo basket installed we're ready to load up our gear. There you have it for the Yakima Mega Warrior Extra Large Roof Rack Cargo Basket, part number Y07080.

That was a very good, informative video. Speaker was easy to understand and didnt try to talk over my head by using too many technical terms. Thank you so much.
