Review of the Yakima Roof Basket on a 2016 GMC Sierra 2500

Hey, guys. Today we have a 2016 GMC Sierra 2500, and we're going to a test fit on the Yakima Off-grid Rooftop Cargo Basket. Now, the cargo basket mounts to the roof rack of your Sierra. It allows you to get any type of gear, whether it's cargo, luggage, sports and recreational gear, out of your truck, out of your bed and on top of your roof. Now, it's kind of got this nice rugged look to it that, in my opinion, adds to the looks of our Sierra right here. It's an open basket design, so if you have any materials that are sensitive to the elements, whether you got something that's going to be sensitive to water or even the sun, you may want to consider getting an enclosed cargo box. We have plenty of those here at etrailer.

But, if you don't have anything that's going to be sensitive, then this is going to be a great option for you. We'll go ahead and hop up here so we can take a closer look at the basket. It's going to be 44 inches long by 40 inches wide, so that's going to be a lot of space to be able to get all your accessories up here. Now, what's really cool is that we do have these crossbars that can be taken off, and what you can do actually is install more rooftop accessories. We've got a bike rack or a kayak carrier, you can install them on your roof basket while getting other stuff on the other side. It's got a front to back rail design whereas most baskets have a left to right design, and that's going to make for easier installation because our brackets right here can slide and accommodate multiple different crossbar spreads. We're going to have four rubber-coated steel straps securing our basket to our roof.

Our example right here is how it installs. It just clamps around our crossbar and locks into that slot right there. When you want to take it off, it just comes right out. And then you use this gray knob right here to tighten or loosen it, whatever the thickness of your crossbar is, and then once you clamp it down, we can push that cap over to lock it up. We do have these plastic locks that we can replace with the Yakima lock cores which are sold separately here at etrailer.

That's just going to leave your roof basket more secure. The basket does have a 165 pound weight capacity, but you do want to be sure to double check with your Sierra's owner's manual to make sure that your rooftop can handle that weight. Also, you want to check and make sure your roof rack can handle that weight as well. Now, with all that being said, that's going to do it for our test fit of the Yakima Off-grid Rooftop Cargo . Rooftop Basket, excuse me, on our 2016 GMC Sierra 2500.
