Review of the Yakima Roof Bike Racks on a 2019 Toyota RAV4

Hey guys, John here at etrailer.com. Today we have our 2019 Toyota RAV4 and we're test fitting the Yakima high speed bike rack. This is a great way to get our bike to our favorite destination, without having to try to fit it into our trunk or install a bike rack and put a, you know, a hitch on the back of our vehicle at extra length. Maybe our seating is all taken off and we have all of our cargo area full. We can still get our bike to where we need it to go. We do have our front wheel removed.

This is a front fork Mount bike rack. So as much as it might seem like an inconvenience to remove our front wheel, it actually makes the bike lighter and a little bit easier to load. We'll go into a little bit more details about that in a few minutes, when we remove our bike.A few specs on the high speed, it can handle up to a 40 pound bike, a max wheel base of 48 inches, which your wheelbase is going to be from the center of one axle to the center of the other. And then the max tire width is five inches. So it has a lot of versatility with it.

Great, for a lot of different types of bikes, it secures our bike here at two, I guess, technically, technically you could say three points of contact. We have the rear strap here and then our forks are attached to this nine millimeter skewer. So to remove our bike, we will press this lever Open up that ratchet. The nice thing about this too, is that ratchet. We can actually reverse it and put it on this side. So if we would rather our bike rack be on the other side of the vehicle, or maybe working too, we still have options then to remove the front fork, we will loosen up this knob here.

Just kind of rotate your bike down and out of the way. For the installation, as I was kind of hinting at earlier, we have the quick-release skewer here. We can pre-install this on our bike. So we're not trying to lift our bike up and into place without it being installed. You know, it'd be a lot more difficult to get the forks in place with this on our roof instead of just putting it on here.

So I really liked that feature of this bike rack. And then once this is installed on our bike, we place it in the front and there's this clamp, this is what this adjusting knob here, pushes this clamp and secures that front skewer. We are able to add a lock core up here, which locks the bike rack to our roof rack. And then at the back of our bike rack, there is an integrated cable lock. So we'll bring this out, wrap around our wheel and then lock it back into place in itself. The lock quarters do not come with the bike rack, but we are able to purchase them here at etrailer.com to add that extra security to your system.Let's go over a few dimensions here so we can figure out how this interacts with the vehicles specifically. This is the Thule wing bar Evo refract system, and it sits right about five inches above our roof. And then to the adjustment knob, which is going to be the tallest point of our bike rack that sits about nine inches above our roof. So you add about four inches to your current roof rack system to determine if you can fit in your garage or maybe low clearance issues, whether you need to take this off or not, but that is going to do it for the look at the Yakima High Speed roof, Mount bike rack on our 2019 RAV4. Thanks for watching. Here on our test course, we'll start by going through the slalom. This is going to show us the side to side action. This simulates turning corners or evasively maneuvering. Once we get to the full speed bumps, we'll see the up and down action. This will be just like driving in and out of a parking lot parking garage or driveway. Once we get to the alternating speed bumps, we'll see the twisting action. This will simulate hitting a curb or pothole or driving over uneven pavement..
