Review of the Yakima Trunk Bike Racks on a 2013 Volkswagen Beetle

Today on our 2013 Volkswagen Beetle we're doing a test fit of the Yakima Full-Back Trunk Mount 2-bike rack. That part number is: Y02634. We already have our bike secured down. First we're going to show you how we do that. Two cradles in place with three straps: two on our frame and one as our anti-sway strap in the back. We're going to pinch the two pinch points together and pull that through. These are also known by Yakima as zip strips.

With those removed we can take our bike off and set it off to the side. I like to replace my zip strips so they don't get lost or damaged. Now, I'll take a few measurements. First is going to be overall what we're adding to our vehicle: it's going to be about 18 inches. We do have the option to rotate our arms down. I'm just going to push the gray portion towards the back, arms rotated down, and lock into place.

I like to push them as far back as possible so they're out of the way and adding less to our vehicle. It looks like our bumper is actually going to stick out further than our bike rack in this position which is going to great for close-quarter situations. As for how our bike is secured down, we have two straps over the top portion of the trunk and two underneath the bottom portion. We also have pads along the bottom and along the top that are going to help prevent scratches or abrasions from our bike rack onto our vehicle. Now you'll notice this is sitting pretty far down compared to where the opening or the top portion of our trunk is. That is because we need our arms to be either parallel or just above parallel with the ground. So we have this in our position. To adjust it we're going to rotate the center section just like the two outer sections.

We're going to rotate it towards our vehicle. On the back of our bike rack we have our fit dial. It is set to four today as per our Yakima Guide. You do want to double check that and you will get that Yakima Guide with your trunk mount and it will give you all the different fits for all the different vehicles, so you can use this one trunk mount. That's going to be our completed look: The Yakima Full Back Trunk Mount 2-Bike Rack, part number: Y02634, on our 2013 Volkswagen Beetle.Speaker 2: First we'll take it onto our slalom course. This will show you the side-to-side action such as making turns, or evasive maneuvers. Now, we're at the alternating speed bumps.

This will show you how it looks driving on uneven pavement or potholes. Finally, we're at the solid speed bumps which simulates going into your driveway or parking lots.
