Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located inside your trunk, behind the tail lights on both the driver's side and passenger's side. You will need to remove the rear threshold panel and some interior lining to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead with the attached fuse holder up to your car battery. Connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on the battery and insert the provided fuse.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Video Transcript for Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - 118602 Review

Today we're going to review part number 118602. This is the Tow-Ready T1 vehicle wiring harness with the four pole flat trailer connector. This is a custom fit wiring harness. It is designed to fit the 2013 and 2014 Chevrolet Malibu LTZ models, except the Canadian models. This will provide a four-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. It comes with all the hardware pictured here.

It connects quickly and easily. Basically this will plug into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located inside your trunk behind the tail lights on both the driver's and the passenger side. Basically you will need to remove the rear threshold panel and some interior lining to access this harness. Basically what you would do is once you plug in the "T" connectors, you have these, the yellow, this connector, with the "T" connector on it with the yellow wires will go to your driver's side. You'd unplug the connectors on the back of your tail lights, plug this in line to that connection. Right here, the one that is green and red, the green would go over to the passenger side.

Same way, you would unplug the connector on the tail light, the back of the tail light, plug this in line to it. What you would end up also having to do, is there is a white wire, this is the ground wire, with the eyelet on the end coming out of the module light, this would have be grounded to a nice clean unpainted surface. They include a self-tapping screw to do that. The four-way, you can see, is coming out and then the other exposed wire is this red wire. This red wire would be the power wire.

This wire you would have to run from the back of your car to the front of the car where the battery is located and this will supply the power to the module light. The way they do that, this will ensure that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer and this powered module connect directly to the battery will help avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Basically, what you would do, is take this wire they include, this length of wire, and on one end, and these butt connectors, you would connect it to this red power wire with the butt connector, run it to the front, and with this other end, you would hook one end to this in-line fuse holder before you attach it to the battery. Use the butt connector, the other one to connect that, and then once you have done that, you have this one here. You would take the eyelet connector, put it on, and that would connect to the positive post of your battery. Then what you would need to do is take the included ten amp fuse, plug it into your fuse holder, and then you can put the cover over it and then it would be all ready to go. Now they also include this double sticky tape pad and that would be used to attach this module light to a flat surface on the rear of your vehicle.

It also includes some cable ties to tie up any loose line that might be dangling down or keep it away from any hot places and it does come with the instructions. It does come with a one-year limited warranty and that should do it for the review on part number 118602, the Tow-Ready T1 vehicle wiring harness with the four pole flat trailer connector. .

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2014 Chevy Malibu
Unless your Chevy Malibu is a 2014 model the part # 36543 that you referenced would not be the correct hitch for you. Instead you would want the Draw-Tite part # 36538 as it is the correct hitch for your vehicle and would work well. For trailer wiring you would want the part # 118602 for if you have an LTZ model or part # 118576 for if you do not have an LTZ model. You will need the recommended ball mount, part # 36061. For hitch balls you would want the part # 19256 for a 1-7/8 inch...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2015 Chevy Malibu
It is not recommended to use the smaller trunk battery to install a trailer wiring harness on a 2015 Chevy Malibu. That small battery is not rated as high as the regular battery under the hood and using it could result in the trailer wiring harness not working properly. There are different trailer wiring harnesses recommended for different models of the 2015 Malibu. For a US or Canadian model that is NOT an LTZ use # C56176. For a US model that IS an LTZ use # 118602.

  • Is Drilling Needed to Install a Powered Trailer Wiring Harness in 2015 Chevrolet Malibu
Routing the 12V power wire for a powered trailer wiring harness like the Tow Ready T-One # 118602 may require some drilling. Often there will be existing holes and/or wiring grommets that can be used but in some instances drilling a new hole will make the installation process easier. You just want to be very careful to check the area where you intend to drill to ensure there are no critical components behind it, such as other wiring, a brake line or a fuel line. If you do end up drilling...
