Today we're going to be taking a look at the Bulldog Winch 2-gauge 20-foot-long booster cable set. This is part number BDW20197. Now on our 20-foot lead, we're going to have the 2-gauge cable. It's going to give us plenty of power transfer through to get whatever we need operating operating. On the plug in, we've got the positive and negative side. As you can see, those have nice terminal ends on them with a corrosive-resistant finish so we won't have to worry about those degrading over time. Now the connectors themselves are clamps.
These feel a lot in-hand like the old school clamps, the really good ones that had a lot of spring tension. You could work out with these, they're so tough. It's nice. I wouldn't want to get your finger caught in there. It's not going to feel good at all.
They've got that heavy duty feel. That metal runs all the way down through our handles. It's connected into the wire down here, but we're going to have a full length metal. We're not dealing with plastic here. We're dealing with metal base that has this plastic coating. What this is going to do, we get in inclement temperatures and stuff like that, that plastic won't let our hands freeze onto those, so they won't cause our hands to go numb from holding onto something cold.
That gives us a nice barrier, nice protection there from that, but heavy duty, really nice set of clamps here. These are going to give you years of good service. As you can see, it's going to come in a nice carrying case. We can easily tuck this away in our truck, keep it out of the elements. You don't have to worry about the corrosion and stuff, and also don't have to worry about it getting inaudible 00:01:38 with the dirt and grease that might build up on them onto our carpets and things like that. When we open the box, we take a look inside. Let's pull our longer set aside here.
This is really the part of the system that really comes in handy. You got these nice heavy duty clamps designed to go right onto our battery connections. Twenty feet of 2-gauge cables so we can really cover some distance there and really get it out to that vehicle that we need to hook up, and then we're also going to have the 7-1/2-foot 2-gauge leads that go up to that battery connection, which we'll show you here in just a little while. Now we'll pull that weatherproof cover off the end. That's also provided. Once that connection's been made, hook it up to the vehicle that has power issues, your trailer that has power issues, whatever the case may be, and they'll be ready to jump start and we can work that jack, whatever we need to do. Now we're going to start our install with our 7-1/2-foot lead set here. This is the vehicle side. We're going to be mounting it up here either on the bumper, in the grill. That's your decision. We just want to run our cables in where we want our plug to be out there, and then we just need to direct these up towards the battery area. This particular Ford here, right here beside the radiator, there's a nice opening. We'll go right through there. Now it's pretty simple from this point. We want the red lead to be over here at the red side, the positive side. We want the black lead on the black or on the negative side. You can see we've got plenty of cable lead here, so what we're going to do, instead of cutting this, in case we ever need to stretch it out for some reason or if we ever need to make new connections, is just coil it up. This 2-gauge wire is nice and heavy. It'll coil up real well. Tuck it right down here where I've got my black wire. We can run that right up to our other terminal here. All right, that's all the connections we have to make. Now we can take any of our extra wire here, we'll zip tie it to itself and then find a good anchor point to use. Now we're going to make this to where it's conveniently located here on the front. Just use a couple of zip ties to get it secured. This should give us a good connection point whenever we want to plug in and then still be out of the way enough when we don't. We'll just trim off that extra zip tie length that we've got. In order to keep that around so we won't lose it, what we'll do is just take a zip tie right through there, around the other zip tie we used. Just bring it through like that. Pretty simple, straightforward method of ensuring that we'll never have to worry about that cap disappearing so it'll keep this nice and protected from the elements and dirt and debris going in. Now we can grab our cable set out of our box, pull our debris plug out of the way, place the cable plug right in, and then hook it up to our stalled vehicle's battery. With our connections made, we'll hit the key and it should fire right up. Now we've got our vehicle started and we can get it safely off the side of the road or get it from being stranded in the parking lot or whatever the situation be. Now another great option we have is the rear winch wiring for our vehicle, so what we can do is bring the extended length cable all the way from the battery to the rear of our truck. With this connection, we'll simply be able to pull in right in front of them, back up within the 20 feet that we need for our cables, and we can just repeat that same jumping process. You can see where this 20-foot length is really going to come in handy. We can get nice and spread out, really gives us a lot of range from our connection to whatever it is that we need to get jumped or provide power to. Now with everything connected, that's going to complete today's look at the Bulldog Winch, 2-gauge, 20-foot-long booster cable set. This is part number BDW20197.

I have a power outlet on both ends of my truck for my winch, and these cables are much longer and heavier than your standard light vehicle booster cable set. With the ability to hook up at either end, it's easy to jump another vehicle without the usual hassle of making sure your battery is near their battery.
The bonus is, if you have a winch that plugs in there too, you can use it elsewhere and use these heavy cables to hook up to a battery.
My one (and minor) complaint is that the box is sized for the full set, making it a fair bit larger than it needs to be to keep the booster cables in when they're in the trunk or behind the seat in a regular cab truck.
They seem expensive compared to the cheap ones at the auto parts store, but the copper wire crimped in one clamp is more than the whole set of cheapo ones have. They are well worth the money and have readily served my needs for a year now from jumping a weak battery to firing off a big-block with a stone-dead battery off and running a 5k car trailer winch. Will likely be ordering another set for my bus soon.
Installed the set on my 2011 F250 diesel... the only change I did from the video was to put the battery cables in a wire loom when I ran them to the battery.
The kit is basically the bulldog winch wiring kit + jumper cables. I will be buying the 24 foot wire set to run cables to my rear hitch so I can jump from either end of my truck or use a winch on either end. Shipping to Canada was fast and hassle free.
