Video Transcript for Westin Oval Tube Steps Installation - 2012 Toyota Tacoma

Today on our 2012 Toyota Tacoma, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Westin oval tube steps with custom installation kit in black, part number 22-5055-1475. Now here's what they look like once they're installed and since this is a wide oval step, it's going to give you greater stability than some of the narrower tube steps that are on the market. They're made of a mild steel with a black, powder-coated finish. It's going to help prevent against rust and corrosions and keep them looking nice for many years. The step plates are of UV-resistant polymer, so you're going to have long life out of those as well. The raised tread here is going to help with your shoes to get a good grip even in wet weather.

And you can see it's really durable, even under my full body weight. Now here's what our kit is going to consist of. We're going to have these custom brackets. The 2 in the rear are going to be the same. How you'll know they're for the passenger side is the bracket's going to fold over and go towards the back. Then our front bracket is going to be a little bit different.

You can see the holes are spread out a little wider in it to better hold the load. And they're going to fit in to some factory mounting holes on the underside of our vehicle that presently have some plastic clips inside them. So, there's going to be 2 here, 2 of them here, and 2 up in the front. We're just going to back out these plastic clips that are in place that we're the threaded inserts in the body. There's going to be 6 of those to remove. We're going to be using an 8 millimeter bolt followed by a split lock washer and then a flat washer.

And that's how we'll secure them to the body. So we place them up there. And we're just going to go ahead and run these down finger tight, then we'll install the other 2 as we move back. Now we're going to take our tube steps out of the package. You'll see one of them is wrapped in a red bubble wrap and is marked passenger side. Once we have it up in the place where we want it, we're going to slide the brackets up inside.

Drop them down through and do the same thing for the other 2. Once we have it in place, we'll just lift it, slide it to the front. Your kit is actually going to come with 4 of these for each side. Depending on the application they add some extra ones. But in this case, we're only going to have 3 on each side. Now we're going to take the supplied black flat washer and a nylon lock nut, and there will be 4 of those for each bracket. Just go ahead and start them on there finger tight. And we'll just work our way back. Now we're going to take a 13 millimeter socket and just snug up the bolts along the bottom of the body. Then we're going to go ahead and torque them down to the specifications as listed in our instructions. The next step we're going to want to do is we're going to center our nerf bar into the body in the position that you want to line up to, and I'm going to go ahead and line them up at the end of the cab here to the end of our step. Now we can go ahead and snug up our attachment brackets after we have them centered up in the place we like on the vehicle. You're going to want to, after you have one on one side set up, you want to make sure you measure it so you have them both the same distance on both sides of the vehicle. Then we can just go ahead and torque them down to the specifications in our instructions. And that's going to complete our install.
