Roadmaster Tow Bar Braking Systems - RM-751220

  • Stop Light Switch
  • Roadmaster

Avoid damage to your vehicle by ensuring that your supplemental braking system is properly positioned and working effectively. Kit activates your RV monitoring system to alert you when the brakes of your towed car are being applied.

Features:

  • Activates motorhome brake-monitoring system whenever brake pedal in towed car is applied
    • Ensures that the supplemental braking system is functioning properly
  • Works great for any application that does not have a tow position in the ignition
  • Wires directly into towed car's fuse box for constant current
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • 12 Volts
  • Application: custom fit for your vehicle

This kit allows your RV's monitoring system to alert you whenever the brake pedal of your towed car is being applied. Other systems operate according to whether the air cylinder is extended and provide no indication of what is happening with the pedal itself. If your supplemental braking system is improperly installed, it may be continuously pressing on the pedal, impeding it from fully retracting and possibly causing damage to your vehicle's tires and braking system. With Roadmaster's Stop Light Switch Kit, you will always know when the brake is being depressed, and you will avoid costly damage.

Just installed my secondary brake light switch in my motor home and truck to assist me in ensuring my brakes have been applied and releasing while towing my truck. I will test the new system in a couple of days to make sure everything is working correctly.

  • Is A Supplemental Braking System Required When Flat Towing A 2012 Chevy Silverado
Use of a supplemental braking system is typically required by law (depending on the state) and is well worth the money to ensure that your towed vehicle can stop in the event of a breakaway and to reduce wear and tear on the motorhome. The Roadmaster Nighthawk # RM-676 is a great tow bar, but has no way to activate the brakes in your Silverado. There are two styles of supplemental braking systems; portable or fixed. Portable systems will typically require a small amount of wiring to be...

  • Is Additional Stoplight Switch Required When Installing Hopkins Brake Buddy
The Hopkins Brake Buddy systems like the Stealth part # HM39530 that we carry come with a stoplight switch for the activation of the system. The brakes of the tow vehicle will have to apply for the system to activate and start activating the brakes of the towed vehicle. There would be no need to also install an additional stoplight switch. If you wanted a monitor to allow you to know when the brakes are being applied you'd then want the part # RM-9530 which gives you a monitor you can...

  • Parts Needed to Safely Flat Tow a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
You will need to check your owners manual or with the Chevrolet dealer to see if your 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 4x4 can be flat towed. Some vehicles must be equipped with a transmission lube pump, an axle disconnect, drive line disconnect or free-wheeling hubs before they can be towed. If the correct procedure is not followed it will cause severe damage to the transmission. If you will be able to flat tow your vehicle, you will need a tow bar, base plate kit, safety cables, wiring, and...

  • Base Plates, Tow Bar, and Accessories Needed to Flat Tow a 2012 Chevy Silverado 1500
Before flat towing any vehicle you will want to consult the owners manual to determine how the vehicle should be towed and if there are any special restrictions or requirements. The Roadmaster XL base plates, # 3154-1, bolt onto the frame rails in the front of the 2012 Chevy Silverado 1500. The kit comes with all the parts and hardware for installation. To flat tow a vehicle there are 4 other parts you will need starting with a tow bar compatible with the base plates. If your truck when...

  • Recommended Parts for Flat Towing 2012 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 Behind Motorhome
To flat tow your vehicle, you'll need a tow bar, base plates, safety cables, a wiring solution so that the truck taillights work in conjunction with those of the tow vehicle, a supplemental braking system and possibly a high/low adapter. For Blue Ox parts starting with the tow bar, I'd go with the Blue Ox Avail, part # BX7420. This tow bar has a 10K capacity like you were looking for, and features non-binding self aligning arms that make hooking up and detaching very easy. The safety cables...

When towing a vehicle with a motorhome there are five components needed: baseplates for the towed vehicle, towbar, safety cables/chains, lighting system, and supplemental braking system. Starting with the baseplate, as long as your 2012 GMC Canyon is not the Z71 or Xtreme model, then RoadMaster XL Base Plate # 3122-1 will fit your truck. If your 2012 Canyon is the Z71 model then RoadMaster XL # 3164-1 is the correct baseplate kit for your truck. Both kits have removable arms and will...

Given that your 2012 Chevy Silverado 1500 could easily get over the 5,000 pound limit of the base plates you're refering to I recommend going with a different set. The Roadmaster MX base plates, # 3154-3, are generally considered more heavy duty and are recommended for trucks and SUVs. For a compatible tow bar, you will want a Roadmaster model that slides into the hitch on the RV. For a compatible tow bar that will match the capacity of your hitch and cover the vehicle weight, take a look...

Both systems will work on your 2012 Silverado 3500. I checked with Roadmaster and the Even Brake Part # RM-9400 as well as the Brake Master # RM-9160 have been confirmed to work with your truck. Since you have air brakes on your motorhome I think the Brakemaster would be the better choice. You will also need the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751220 and the Seat Adapter part # RM-88158 . You will also need a stop light switch kit. This alerts the monitoring system if the brakes on your Tahoe are applied. If you have adjustable brake pedals the kit you need is part # RM-751220. With the Roadmaster Sterling, part # RM-576, I recommend the MX kit, part # 3154-3, for a base plate kit that fits your 2010 Chevrolet Silverado. The safety cables of the Sterling won't fit with these but you can attach the cables somewhere else on the truck. The wiring kit to power the truck's lights that I suggest is the diode kit, part # RM-15267. Since you're towing a full size truck you want a tow bar with a higher capacity so I recommend the Roadmaster Blackhawk, part # RM-422. It's rated up to 10,000 pounds.
