Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the rear bumper or inside the driver's-side frame channel.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Video Transcript for Hopkins Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - HM40125 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with the 4-pole flat trailer connector. This product fits certain years of the Ford F150, 250, and 350. To see if this is a fit for your vehicle, you can use the vehicle fit guide located at etrailer.com. This unit's going to provide a 4-way flat connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. It is compatible with 5-pole, 6-pole, and 7-pole adapters. Adapters are sold separately.

It's going to come with a dust cap for the 4-way flat connector. That way you can cover up those connection points when your plug's not being used. It also features protective connection terminals to resist corrosion and last a long time. This is going to connect quickly and easily. You do not have to worry about cutting or splicing any wires. Just locate the connection point behind the rear bumper.

Then you will need to plug in this connector right here. It's got a connector on each side. This is going to match perfectly with the ports on the vehicle. It's going to push together and snap lock together for a nice, tight, secure fit. Once your installation's complete, the 4-way connector's going to be stowed beneath the vehicle near the trailer hitch.

You can loop it around a safety chain loop, or you can purchase a mounting bracket. A mounting bracket is recommended. It is sold separately. That's going to help keep the connector secure and easily accessible. If you're in need of one, you can find them right here at etrailer.com. It's also recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all your electrical connections, like the plugs on the vehicle and the 4-pole connector itself.

The grease is included. Then if you have any excess or slack in the wiring, you can use the cable ties provided with the kit to secure those out of the way. That's going to do it for today's look at the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with the 4-pole flat trailer connector.

It was fast and very easy to do but I have only 5 pins used and it comes with 6. It is for a different truck I think. Tested it and it seems to work fine but no trailer yet. The ground did not seem to work but if I use the truck I would get the test light to work. As I can tell it works fine and is very easy to use, just wish I knew about it sooner. Will try to update when I use it.

I have lost track of all of the items I have purchased from etrailer over the past few years, but I do know that everything I have received has arrived generally pretty quick and everything has been great quality. I just recently bought another brake controller for another pickup I just bought, chose the same one because my other one is still working well and I think the price was even still pretty close to what it was a year ago. Thanks for the great products, fast shipping, and good prices, etrailer is my go to for towing, trailers, and truck needs to tow.

Live a couple miles from quite a few launch ramps here in Lake Havasu City AZ. Pull my boat well over 50 times a year and the new connector has worked perfectly. Great product and simple to install. Just plug and play!

  • Which Trailer Hitches Fit a 1990 Ford F-150
We have a number of hitches that could fit your 1990 Ford F-150. I like Curt hitches because of their thicker powder coat compared to other brands. It depends on which frame and which rear bumper your truck has as to which is the correct Curt hitch: Standard or step bumper models use part # 14001 Deep drop bumper models use part # C15511 Cab and chassis models use part # 13028 Also, if you need a 7-way wiring harness you can hardwire in part # 20023. Or if you only need a 4-way you can...

  • Parts Needed To Add a 7-Way For a Brake Controller To a 1989 Ford F-350
In order to add a 7-way trailer connector to a 1989 Ford F-350 you will need to combine a few parts as they do not make one complete kit for this vehicle. However, all that will be needed is the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness part # HM40125 and then the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller part # ETBC7. The Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness provides a 4-way and will plug into a port behind the rear bumper and then the Universal Installation...

  • Parts Needed To Install a 7-Way On a 1995 Ford F-150
You will need to add the 7-Way Upgrade # ETBC7 to the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness # HM40125 to install a 7-way on your 1995 Ford F-150. There is not a 7-way plug and play harness available for your F-150 as not all the wiring is ran from the factory on every truck. The 7-Way kit above includes enough wiring for installing a Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 if your trailer is equipped with electric brakes.
