Video Transcript for MORryde Jeep Wrangler Spare Tire Carrier Review

Hi everyone, it's Evangeline here at etrailer. And today we'll be taking a look at our MORryde spare tire mount. Now MORryde has these custom fit for your different Jeeps, meaning if you have a Jeep Wrangler JK, JL, JLU, or even YJ or TJ, you're gonna have some different hinge requirements as well as frame requirements. So, if you do wanna set everything up just use our fit guide right here at etrailer.com to get the correct fit for you. When you upgrade your Jeep with those new tires you're also gonna have to upgrade your setup to carry them. So one example for that are going to be your upgraded hinges, which are a bit more heavy duty than your factory hinges.

You're also gonna get or consider getting a replacement reinforcement plate for the back, which creates that heavy duty capacity for those heavy duty tires. Now if you're just getting set up to upgrade to your new tires, you don't have them just yet, this can also work with your factory tires, like what we have here. Now let's take a look at a reason why you might also wanna consider upgrading when you upgrade everything else. So, with your factory carrier, you're perfectly fine when you're carrying your factory spare tires, but if you wanna carry those heavier tires, you need heavier weight capacity. For example, I know someone that had 33s on their spare tire carrier, and what happened as they we're going down the highway, it snapped off of their Jeep and their wheel went bouncing down the highway and hit three vehicles.

So, for that reason alone, I would highly consider if you're upgrading your wheels and tires, go ahead and upgrade your carrier too. So this spare tire has its own bolts for your lug nuts on your spare tire. This utilizes the same bolt pattern that Jeeps have, which is gonna be the 555 bolt pattern. This does have an adjustable third brake light bracket, which allows you to raise and lower the bracket depending on the height of your tires. What I did notice, though, is once you get past let's say your 32s or 33s and you lift that bracket higher up, your own wiring may not reach.

So when that happens, you may need to lengthen it, which involves splicing and dicing some wires in there. Or, you may consider also upgrading to another third break light. There's usually some that have that ring light pattern that goes into the end of your spare tire. It's really up to you. It's gonna be your spare tire, as well as your adventures.

So this is going to replace your factory spare tire carrier and you're going to use a mix of your old hardware and some new hardware that is included with this carrier. So some of the tools that I use to tighten everything down is gonna be a four millimeter allen wrench, a T20 torque bit, as well as either a half inch or a 7/16th inch socket or wrench. So I set this up yesterday, that way I had a chance to just put it in action. I also installed these hinges, just to give itself that reinforcement for our Jeep door. If you wanna take a look at the install process check out the hinges from MORryde right here at etrailer. But for now, let's take a look at the install process of our spare tire carrier. So the first thing you need to do is you need to take off your spare wheel before you install your new carrier. So to remove your factory or your stock carrier, I use a half inch socket in order to loosen all those bolts around the carrier. To remove the stock third brake light, I used a P 20 torque bit in order to loosen those four bolts. Just gonna unhook that line for the light off of our carrier before we take off the carrier. With that wire free, just go ahead and take the rest of your bolts off of your carrier and make sure to support it as you take the last one off. Before we put our shiny new carrier on the back of our Jeep, let's go ahead and clean up all that dust and grime from the old one. If you're using the tailgate reinforcement that MORryde offers, go ahead and install that now. If not, go ahead and install your carrier, using the hardware from your factory or your stock carrier. So when you get your carrier on there, you actually have two options for holes. You can put it into the higher position or the lower position. I have it in the lower position. And you're gonna use your factory hardware to tighten things down, so use those same holes you had for your previous carrier. Use a half inch socket all throughout. And again, this is gonna be the same exact process, if you have the reinforced hardware in the back. These two pieces are going to be for your brake light. And they're actually adjustable. You have the holes on the side, so that way you can move this up and down, depending on the height of your tire. So what we're gonna do is we're gonna attach this bracket to our carrier using the included hardware. So from your included hardware, you're gonna first get these bolts and I use a four millimeter hex bit just to secure it. So pop those through from the top. From underneath, you're gonna secure it with a flat washer and this nylon net. So you're going to use a 7/16ths wrench to secure it, so use the four millimeter on top, 7/16ths on the bottom. And now you can place your top bracket. So this is gonna be where you adjust the height, depending on your tire size. The maximum height you can have this at is going to be up to 40 inches. But, if you do have it on those higher heights you may need to get extra wire for your light. So just like your bottom bracket you're going to use the same type of hardware, which is gonna be your bolts, your flat washers, and your nylon nets. So we're gonna use our factory brake light, but we're also gonna use the included hardware with this kit. So we have the replacement screws, but we also have spacers. So the spacers are gonna be used in your brake light, just in order to make sure it lines up with your current bracket. So you're going to use the same tool you used to take this off from your factory carrier and that's going to be a T20 torque bit. But I do recommend just loosely tightening things down until you get everything threaded in. And then make sure everything is secure, tighten it down completely to install. Your wiring is going to fit right through this hole where your bottom bracket is. So just bring it through, and make sure to connect it to your brake light. Just double check that all your bolts are secure. But that's it with the install process. You're ready to put your spare tire onto your brand and new spare tire carrier. And this right here was a look at our MORryde's spare tire carrier for Jeeps, right here at etrailer. My name's Evangeline, and I hope you enjoyed the journey..

etrailer delivered the product very fast, at a great price and had great communication with the whole order process. Lost 1 star sine two of the bolts supplied with the kit literally locked up during hand tightening and I had to use a Sawzall to get the bolts off, but a quick trip to the hardware store fixed that. Other than the bolts it was an easy install and looks great and functional for what I needed.
