Looks very strong and I like the way it tucks up behind the bumper; looks good from outside.
I took two photos, one showing how it looks from outside and one showing how that the hitch is fairly high off the ground - unlikely to hit the ground even in a steep situation.
I came close to giving it 5 stars, except...
1- I had to manhandle it to get bolt holes to line up. I know they warn that it might have gotten "sprung" in shipment - no way; this was just a misalignment of the holes. I used a tire iron to lineup holes and all was then OK.
2- The welds where the round tube joins the mounting plates were not very well made. Not concerned about strength, just they were sloppy. I expected better.

Hitch has been doing its job, I pull a 5000 Lb boat no problem . Thanks

by:

Great hitch, super easy to install. Just make sure you have a torque wrench to tighten bolts at correct psi. Short sockets are a must to be able to tighten the two bolts that go under the bumper. I had to use a wrench for those two. Took a while but other than that wary install.

by:

The Hitch was good quality two holes had to be die grinded slightly still only took about 15 minutes to install powder coating is nice to would buy again

by:

Great product and Delivered in a timely manner. The staff, Cam J, was very helpful and professional and followed up every step of the way to replace the original product purchased. Great company to deal with.

2004 Chevrolet Tahoe

I decided to purchase this based on eTrailer's recommendation. Glad I did. I had to replace the old rusted OEM hitch on a 2004 Chevy Tahoe Z71 and this hitch fits perfectly. Installation was quick and easy, even working by myself. I recommend this product. Well made.

Excellent! I have no complaints.

by:

The product looks great. However there are two bolts that hold the bumper in place have to come out These are two of the bolts rhat also hold the Hitch. So far I have not been able to remove those bolts and will have to take the truck in to some one with a heavy duty impact wrench to remove those bolts so I can get the hitch in place. The instructions do not mention this.

With older vehicles, like the 2003-2006 GM trucks, sometimes that hardware is a little corroded and difficult to remove. When we run into this in our shops, we soak the hardware with a penetrating lubricant like WD-40 or Parts Blaster. We let it sit, and soak again. The more corroded, the more times we repeat. Then we can use a battery powered impact to break them loose. We typically do not use heavy or air impacts on frame hitches.Tapping the head of the bolt with a mallet can also help to loosen the corrosion particularly if we have had a lubricant working on the threads for a while.

Could someone tell me what is the Bolt size for the TWO bolts that are under the Bumper that hold the Trailer Hitch ??? .. The nuts are welded in but my two bolts are missing.. I have the 2005 GMC Yukon SLT... Thanks

Patrick B.

6/4/2013

On the Curt Hitch, C13422, there are a total of 6 bolts. Two of them are 1/2-13 x 1-1/4 carriage bolts that go into the frame and use the blocks. The other 4 are hex M14-2 X 40MM, these secure into weld nuts, one on each side of the frame as well as the two weldnuts inside the bumper beam at the center of the hitch assembly. We can help you with the missing hardware, just give us a call at 1-800-298-8924.

by:

Product was really well built came in timely manor and was direct fit I’m extremely happy and satisfied

by:
2003 Cadillac Escalade

installation went just as the instructions stated. instructions should mention it may be necessary to remove corrosion from the two bumper weldnuts & not to tighten fasteners until all are connected.

2003 Chevrolet Tahoe

The Curt Trailer hitch was easy to install in my 2003 Chevy Tahoe. We did encounter a little difficulty because my truck had been rear-ended in the past so the holes were a little out of alignment but after a few tries I was able to install it. The hitch can be installed with socket driver and torque wrench although an impact wrench makes the job a lot easier.

The order arrived the day they promised and the eTrailer.com customer service was exceptional. They sent regular updates on my order and created helpful links with instructions and video.

by:

Product shipped on time and in perfect condition - just as described. High quality hitch, after being abused on Vermont roadways for a year it is strong and durable as ever, I tow a light trailer a few times a week with this hitch. Would highly recommend this hitch and etrailer.com

by:

Did not fit. Only after I got it did I figure out that it was wrong for a small percentage of cars. I have to say that etrailers customer service is awesome. They called Curt then called a competitor to check fitment of there product to make sure it would work. Shipped out a replacement at no cost and took back the other hitch. I have used them in the past and will use them again. Great company that will stand behind there product!!!

by:
2005 Chevrolet Tahoe

The hitch fit like a charm. Took 23 minutes from the time I walked into the garage until I was finished and going back in the house. It even arrived quicker than the original estimate. Excellent customer service and a great product.

Thanks for the photo, i also have a step bumper and can not find a hitch receiver for it, well not till now!!! Thanks a lot!

by:

Was very pleased to see the trailer hitch show up today, just like you told me. Took about 20 minutes to install ( mainly because I had to walk to and from my shop to get the right socket a couple of times) Fit like a "glove". I've been a fabricator (metal) and owned my own shop for thirty-some years, and was going to build one myself.I think the smartest decision I made was to purchase your hitch instead of doing it myself. Thanks for the all around great job!

by:

I ordered the curt class 3 hitch and Hopkins 7 blade/4 flat wiring kit with bracket on a Thursday at 2:00 pm at etrailer's shop. Friday morning at 10 am I just got my old hitch off and the ups guy shows up with the parts...perfect timing! I had it on in 20 minutes it was so incredibly easy. A second person would have been helpful to support the weight of the hitch while you're bolting it up. I just used an old sprinkler valve box to set it on. Drilled 2 holes in the bumper for the bracket and ran the self tapping screws in then hooked my factory harness to the adapter and done! Love etrailer and their products and their service. Always helpful, friendly and there if you need them. I'll try to send pics of the install later.

2004 Chevrolet Tahoe

Fast shipping, well packed, great price, excellent customer support and communication from trailer team.

This is my second trailer hitch from etrailer/Curt.

The fit and quality are top notch.

(TIP)
Take your time if aligning and installing the product by yourself. Lay out all parts and tools before starting.

by:

Hitch is super solid and exact bolt pattern match for factory mounting holes. Hardware that came with appears to be all grade 8. Very easy install. Competitive pricing and extremely fast shipping along with customer service emailing after order and delivery to make sure everything was good. This is my second hitch purchase with etrailer and wouldn’t buy anywhere else.

by:
2003 GMC Yukon

The product is great, Looks great on the truck also. Very easy to bolt on. Although I had a little trouble with the mounting holes, had to modify one of them to get The bolt in without damaging the the threads. The free shipping was faster than I expected, great job.
The only thing I would say to do better etrailer is put a little more protection in the packaging. My powder coat was a little banged up from the shipping.

by:
Chevrolet Tahoe

Excellent product. The first one saved my Tahoe from being totaled in a rear end collision. I purchased another one after fixing my truck and it works just as good as the first.

by:

Excellent communication regarding the status of my order.
My hitch looks top notch and the coating is perfect!
Will buy from etrailer again!

by:

Your hitch sounds like it is flexed, which is a common issue among receivers made of mild steel. These are made to flex over potholes and curbs and sometimes flex during shipment. Here is a help article about how to fix the issue:

  • Recommending a Hitch Receiver for a 2006 GMC Yukon XL for use With a Weight Distribution System
A great hitch receiver for your 2006 GMC Yukon XL would be the Curt # C13422. This is a Class V hitch with a 2" opening, a 1,000 lb tongue weight (TW) capacity and a 10,000 lb gross trailer weight (GTW) capacity when you are using a weight distribution system, and 600 lb tongue weight and 6,000 lb towing capacity without weight distribution. Please keep in mind that this hitch will not fit models with EPA canister mounted on passenger side frame rail.

Without knowing what your current hitch's capacity is I can not say for certain you don't need to replace it. However, if you do want or need to replace it I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # C13422. I can confirm for you that yes, the Curt Trailer Hitch # C13422 does fit your 2004 GMC Yukon XL Denali so long as your Yukon does not have a canister on the rear passenger side frame rail. If you need to add a 4-way to your Yukon (that does not have the factory 7-way already) you can use Connector # C59236.

The Curt Class III hitch part # C13422 that you referenced is a confirmed fit for your 2003 Chevy Suburban. It does have only two bolts on the mount flanges that are on the ends of the hitch tube but the bracket that's above the hitch opening also adds an additional 2 mounting points. Curt has tested this hitch on your vehicle and found that it fit and worked well when installed using all of the mounting points of the hitch. So as long as you do that you would be totally fine.

The Curt # C15324 you mentioned is a great choice for your 2004 Chevy Avalanche, but it might be a bit overkill as a Class V hitch since it's not going to give you a higher towing capacity; it would be more peace of mind than functionality so it's not something completely necessary and a Class III hitch would do the job just fine.
