What Does the SH Error Code and a Single Dot Mean on the Prodigy Break Controller, # 90885

Question:

Today after stopping for gas my Prodigy Break break control was flashing NC and SH. I assume NC is no connection but unsure what the SH is indicating. Never saw either of theses codes before. I unplugged and reconnected the controller connection and plug in at rear of truck with no change. Drove out on highway and C came back on and breaks seemed to work properly when stopping. I also noted that there is only one red dot vs two on screen when trailer is unhooked. What does SH indicate and what do I need to check to trouble shoot the problem? Is this a problem with the controller or wiring? What does the single red dot vs two indicate? I drive a 2002 Ford F150

The SH code on the Prodigy Brake Controller, # 90885, indicates that while idle, the brake controller is sensing a short in the brake wire. Tekonsha states that some test lights or non-Tekonsha testers can cause this problem. The NC code means no trailer is connected. The cause to both of these error messages may be solved by cleaning both the vehicle side and trailer side connectors of any dirt or corrosion. Also make sure the brake wire from the controller to the 7-Way is not broken or pinched anywhere. I also recommend checking the ground from the trailer connector to the trailer is secure and free of dirt and corrosion.

The single dot indicates that the boost feature is not on. Two dots means that the boost feature is on.

You might want to also check the actual trailer brake magnets. If a magnet is not grounded properly or is very worn it could cause fault errors in the system. I have included a link to the installation details for the Tekonsha P2, # 90885, below.
