Recommended Trailer Brake Controller and Wiring for 1999 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
Question:
Hello, I recently purchased a hitch from you for my 1999 Mercedes ML320 from you, the 75087 Max-frame boxed. Our Travel trailer is a 2014 Lance 1575 and we were wondering which brake controllerif necessary and wiring kit would be recommended for this setup. Also, we need a receiver and 2inch ball kit as well. I believe this trailer is under 3000lbs. Dry weight and the towing capacity of my vehicle is 5000lbs. I appreciate your time in advance. Thank you

First, for the actual trailer brake controller, I highly recommend looking at the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885. This is a great proportional controller that will activate your trailer's brakes at the same time and with the same intensity that you apply to them in your Mercedes. It features a nice LED display with continuous diagnostics that alert you to any potential issues. This brake controller is well known for its reliability and ease of installation.
You will just need a couple of things in order to install the brake controller in your vehicle. If you do not already have a 4-way connector installed, I recommend using the Curt Upgraded Circuit Protected Tail Light w Converter Hardwire Kit # C59496. Other than being needed to install a functional brake controller, you will also need the 4-way connector to power the rear signal lights on your trailer. I have attached the installation details for you to check out.
Then you will need to install the Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7. This will include everything else needed to install the brake controller and a fully functional 7-way connector. I have attached a detailed article that goes over the installation process of this kit for you to review.
For a ball mount, I recommend the Curt Class III Ball Mount # C45036. This ball mount has a 7,500 pound towing weight capacity and actually includes the 2 inch hitch ball. You will just want to make sure the ball mount you use has the correct rise or drop in order to tow your trailer level. The Curt Ball Mount has a 2 inch drop. I have attached an article on ball mounts that will help you determine which ball mount is best for your setup, as well as a link that will take you to our available selection.
