EOH-Compatible Trailer Brake Controller to Replace Factory Unit in 2005 Ford F-350
Question:
Will my 2005 Ford F-350 OEM Ford brake controller work without modification with the 1000 psi Dexter Brake Actuator?

Expert Reply:
Trailer brake controllers must be designed expressly to be compatible with electric-over-hydraulic trailer brake actuators like the Dexter DX Series EOH drum brake actuator # K71-650. This means that on their main menu screen there must be a setting option for EOH actuators. If not then the controller will not operate properly with the EOH actuator which presents a very different electrical load to the controller than standard electric trailer brakes. Your 2005 Ford unit most likely does not work with EOH systems.
You can replace that unit with an EOH-compatible controller like the Prodigy P2 # 90885 or the P3 # 90195 which works with both electric and EOH trailer brakes. Please refer to the linked article for info on completing this installation.
You will need the controller itself and the quick-connect wiring harness # 3065-P. If you tow multiple trailers then go for the P3 # 90195 since it offers the ability to store different trailer braking power settings.
