Recommended Hitch And Bike Rack For Hauling EBikes On A 2017 Grand Design Solitude 5th Wheel Trailer
Question:
We have a 2017 Grand Design Solitude 43.5 Foot fifth wheel RV. We have 2 electric bikes about 80 lbs each. I am looking for a bike rack and hitch connection to add to the bumper of the RV to safely transport these bikes full time over the road. I am concerned about the strength of the bumper as well as the rack for these heavy bikes. What type of equipment do you recommend to safely and securely mount to the rear bumper and will it affect the driving of the fifth wheel? The bumper is approximately 4x4. Thanks.

Typically the bumper on an RV is not strong enough to support the weight of a bike rack, especially a bike rack with ebikes. You would need to verify with the manufacturer what the weight capacity of the bumper actually is before mounting anything to it.
Typically I recommend installing an RV hitch like the # C13704, which has adjustable mounting brackets to fit the a multitude of trailers. To find the correct fit for your trailer you'll need to measure the distance of the inside of the frame beams. The # C13704 fits frame widths of 22" - 66" and has a 500lb tongue weight capacity. If you have a larger distance let me know and I can find the correct fit.
As for the bike rack, I recommend the Hollywood Racks RV Rider Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes # HLY64FR. This rack has a per bike weight capacity of 80lbs and is rated for use on fifth wheels.
