Today in this 2003 Dodge Ram Pickup, were going to do a test fit of part number VGD-02-100. This is from Stromberg Carlson. Now, were going to start off our test of it with our tailgate already assembled according to instructions, so all Ill got to do is remove the original tailgate then install the new one. The new tailgate installs just like the original. Well slide it over the pin and keep it tilted back, so we can slide on the other pin on the passenger side then well go ahead and push it up. Well pull the latches out just a little bit, then well go ahead and push the tailgate firmly into place.
All right, and with that, thatll finish it for our test fit of part number VGD-02-100 on our 2003 Dodge Ram Pickup.

Love the look. East to install. Needed to use my old cables and had to buy some fasteners and washers to attach the cables and also had to buy the hinge bushings. But for the price and the quality I am very happy.
Took just a few minutes to install and adjust latches. It's a solid tailgate yet light weight. I tow my fifth wheel several times a year and this tailgate will save me a lot of bending and straining. It's a great product.
Pro:
1:fit and finish (excellent)
2:shipping arrived 2 days early (awesome)
3:packaging good (everything arrived intact)
Con: (nitpicking)
1: latch bolts should not be slothead (replaced with something not so prone to stripping)
2: could have used more of the rubber spacers (sandwiched steel washers).
Summary: Used on 05 dodge 3500, would buy again. Very pleased with product.

Tailgate is holding up very well, only caveat is spacers I had to sandwich in steel washers, I had shim the spindle right side to get the vertical spacing right. The tailgate is well made, I use it as a work bench, I stand on it etc. the finish coat is still factory fresh. I am still pleased with this product.
Tailgate arrived as scheduled and took me about 30 minutes to assemble and install. Black gate on my white truck looks sporty and it will not be painted.
I picked up about 1 mile per gallon. The quality and finish is very good. I plan to leave it on for everyday driving to save gas . Thanks for your good service!
Need to be able to adjust latches so the close without manually pulling the pins.
Bought it for a friend. He said it took him about 15min to install it on a 2006 2500 Dodge/Ram. He said the he really liked it and said it was solidly made.

No complaints. Still looks good and works.
While the product is as expected, I found that the instructions were confusing. It appears that the term “pivot tube inserts” in the instructions may actually refer to the 1-3/8” Rubber Discs on the 2102 parts list for the Dodge for the Vented 100 Series Tailgate??? Or even a pivot tube insert that should have been included with the parts??? (See #6 For VG-100 gates:). The part name in the list should be the same as the part referenced in the instructions to make the instructions easier to understand. Also, in the instructions, step #7 refers to pivot tube inserts, not rubber discs. So, it was confusing as to what pivot tube inserts were being referred to. This confusion is due to the use of different part names in the instructions and parts list. In addition, the photos of the steps at the bottom of the page do not bring any clarity to the written instructions, as they are difficult to see and determine what is being shown. Perhaps arrows indicating the part being referenced and other parts in relation to each other would be helpful. The only video we could find to help with the assembly only showed the different parts and not any assembly instruction. Also, the video mentioned the rubber discs, not a pivot tube insert. A video showing the actual assembly would be helpful. I was not able to find a video showing the assembly for my particular truck. Finally got the assembly done and the tailgate installed-oops-forgot to install the rubber discs or are they the pivot tube inserts???

Very good much better than the last plastic one I got from stromberg
I recently purchased a Stromberg-carlson 5th wheel tailgate for my old Ram 2500. Etrailer handled the order very efficiently and the product arrived promptly and in good shape. It was easy to install, fits very well with no rattles, and will make hitching my camper much easier. Its steel construction makes it much sturdier than some of the lighter plastic gates I looked at and should hold up well. An added benefit is being able to see through the tailgate while backing in areas where kids or pedestrians are around. Good product and great service!

tailgate is holding up well and certainly makes using my 5th wheel camper easier. I plan to buy another one for a newer truck I recently purchased.
I am pleased with the product. Compairing other 5th wheel tailgates and their prices, I think this a great product for the price. The instruction sheet that came with the product was absolutely worthless. The "how to" video on the etrailer website was, however, very easy to follow, informative and the steps were
Shown in an easy to follow sequence.

Tailgate installed quickly and works great only one problem the tailgate manufacture forgot to weld one weld which is no problem i will reweld it myself. Still giving it an excellent because of the fit and look of it

I had one of these tailgates on my previous truck. I liked it so much that i bought one for the 07 ram 3500 that I just bought. Helps to see your trailer much better.

Great good investment
The people at etrailer were great to deal with. Product delivery was prompt and I'm satisfied with service I was given. However, the same cannot be said about the product itself. The instructions included with the tailgate were lacking. A number of rubber disks were included but no mention of what they were used for. I called the factory and they told me the disks were used to space the gate in the opening. Made sense after it was explained but no mention of them in the instructions. I had to add 6 flat washers to each side of the spring locks in order to get the latches to work properly, fortunately I had some laying around the house because none were included with the tailgate. The gap between the fender and the tailgate on the left side is even top to bottom, however the gap on the right side is noticeably uneven, which means the pivot point on the right side was welded in the wrong location. All in all I would give etrailer a 5-star rating for service however product quality would only get about 2 1/2 stars
We ordered the new tailgate to make life easier with pulling 5th wheel trailers. Delivery was fast and accurate. It took my hubby awhile to figure out how to get his old tailgate off, but installation of the new one was a breeze! He loves his new tailgate and wishes he had ordered it sooner!

Very satisfied after one year of usage. This is on our hinting truck and gets a lot if hard use. To date it has performed quite well.
It is a great tailgate. So much easier to hook up the 5th wheel to the hitch. I highly recommend getting the Open design.thanks again for a great product.

I havent used the hitch hardware much but I like it. The tailgate is the star. I like it a lot and the open design makes parallel parking in the city so easy. I also get a lot of questions and nice comments about the look.
