Video Transcript for etrailer Trailer Suspension 115052 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at a replacement shackle strap. A shackle strap connects a double aisle leaf spring to a hangar of a single-axle trailer or to an equalizer of a multi-axle trailer. It's going to allow the necessary pivot of the springs to occur for an evenly distributed load between the axles, and also a smooth ride for the trailer. This part number is good for one shackle strap. If we take a measurement, the distance that we have from the center of one hole to the center of the other, that's going to give us the measurement of 2-5/8". Overall length, edge to edge, is around 4".

Overall width from edge to edge is going to give us a measurement of about 1-1/4". The hole diameters, that's going to be 9/16". You can see it's made from a nice durable steel construction. That's going to do it for today's look at the replacement shackle strap.

I was very disappointed when I received the shipment from etrailer and only half the parts were there. When I made the order I was told everything was in stock and would be shipped.

by:

Easy installation holding up well.

by:

Worked perfect.

by:

Order received was missing significant pieces as per my notification to customer service. Looks like all parts, nuts bolts flanges were all packed loose in the box, UPS destroyed the package and reboxed, resulting in missing items. Attached picture is what I received.

by:

Good product, worked as expected.

by:

Fit perfect with the equalizers I also bought from etrailer.

Great replacement for a car hauling trailer built from a house trailer frame that had badly warn suspension parts. These suspensions worked perfectly.

by:

Easy ordering, fast delivery. Great pri ces.

by:

When ordering, the descriptions plus dimensions helped a lot. Pictures of everything was great! Knew exactly what I was ordering. Delivery was right on time and the parts were good quality. I was in a hurry to do these repairs so we could take our trailer on a trip. It was a pleasure to do business with e-trailer! Thank you!

by:

They are working great.

by:

I put them on a double axle goose neck 2-horse straight load that gets used almost 2 days a week this last year. It has made many 100mile trips. I bought it used 8-hrs from home. Bought and installed new tires the next day and jacking it up broke a leaf spring. Put four springs on it using these shackles. Good as new!

by:

The tire blew out on my camper. I changed the tire. I didn’t realize the spring was broke. I ordered springs and shakels and new bolts. It took just over and hour for both sides. Everything I received from etrailer was just as it should be.
Keep up the good job everyone.
Thank you

by:

The spring replacement went well and was easy to complete. It lifted my trailer about 1.5 inches from the top the tire to the fender. It wont rub anymore!!

by:

Reasonably priced replacement part

by:

Correct parts and worked as they should. Replaced springs and hardware on one side of trailer the day i recieved parts.

by:

Package with straps was mangled in transit. The straps were not there. I called Etrailer and hey immediately sent replacements. Great service.

by:

Quick delivery. Perfect fit.

by:

Good fit for a replacement on my utility trailer. Will probably hit them with a can of spray paint as they're bare metal.

by:

A+ Thank you.

by:

Outstanding company to order parts from! All the items where exactly what I needed and whent together great. Minus the old suspension that was completely rusted together haha. Once again great experience all around.

Thanks
Dan

  • Replacement Shackle Strap Recommendation that is 3-1/2 inches Long
Your question came in blank, but based on the picture you submitted it looks like you are in need a replacement shackle strap that is 3-1/2 inches in length. For that you would want the Shackle Strap # TRSL225. This strap is 3-1/2 inches long like what you have pictured with the hole measurements 2-1/4 inches on center. For a new shackle bolt you would want the Shackle Bolt part # 166081.

  • Equalizer Kit Replacement Recommendation for Equalizers that are 7-1/2 inches Long
Since your equalizers are longer than what we have kits for you'll need to piece the kit together you'd need to replace the equalizers, bolts, shackles, and nuts. For the equalizer you'd need to start with the part # TREQE1, then for bolts I'd recommend the wet bolts part # 126B2, for shackles you'd want the part # 115052 which are 2-5/8 inches long.

  • Can I Use 1/2" Longer Shackle Straps for My Trailer Suspension
If the shackle straps are within a 1/2" of what you normally had, say the 2-5/8" # 115052 to 3-1/8" # TRSL313, you should be okay to install them. Just make sure that all of your shackle straps match though. If you are using the longer straps only for a section of your suspension setup then that will cause issues for your trailer.

  • Determining The Correct Replacement Leaf Springs and Shackles Straps For A 1992 Dutchman Camper
I would be happy to help! It looks like you were looking at shackle straps, and also needing the leaf springs you mentioned. Starting with the leaf springs you will need to determine the length of your current leaf spring measured from the center of the spring eye to center of the spring eye if it is a double eye leaf spring, or from center of the spring eye to the end of the spring if it is a slipper spring, and also you will need to know the axle rating of your axle(s). • Can Trailer With Existing 3-1/2" Shackle Straps Use 2-5/16" Shackle Straps From Equalizer Kit
Switching the shackle straps on your 2015 Big Tex 60CH would not be a good idea, especially since you would be using a significantly shorter size. In general, you want to keep the same length since swapping them out will change the suspension geometry and cause problems. Sometimes you need to use a longer shackle if you get a tall equalizer but I'm sure that doesn't apply here. Assuming you truly have 3-1/2" shackle straps you aren't going to find a kit with those since they aren't a...

The 7,000 lb double-eye leaf spring we have that is closest to 26" is the 24-7/8" long 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 7,000-lb Trailer Axles # e64SR. Assuming yours have flattened a good amount (which will definitely be true if the trailer is older), these will work out as a good replacement. You mentioned hardware, and I'm assuming you were referring to U-bolts, shackle bolts and straps. You'll need to measure your shackle straps but you can use the following: - U-Bolt Kit # APUBR-9 -...

  • Changing Shackle Strap Length to Maximize Weight Capacity on Sagging Trailer
The first thing I would check on your trailer is the capacity of the springs. You need to be sure the spring capacity is rated at 1/2 the axle capacity. That way 2 springs equal the capacity of the trailer axle for proper fit. Check the arch of the springs with a level top of spring to top of spring to tie bolt. Next, check your tire size. At some time the tire size and wheel size may have been changed from the stock size. If the stock size is known you can return to that size and it would...

I recommend the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 2,000-lb Trailer Axles # e77SR to replace the springs on your 1962 Aristocrat single axle trailer. These are the same 1-3/4" wide springs with a 26" measurement from bolt center to bolt center. As springs wear and sag it is normal for the measurements to appear longer than what they are when new so this will be the best one for your 2,000lb trailer. Be sure to replace both springs as a set. • How to Pick Out Replacement Shackle Bolt and Straps for Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension

  • How to Determine Correct Replacement Wet Bolts and Shackle Straps for Trailer
While we can help you determine the correct parts, we don't have a way of knowing exactly what type or length of shackle straps or bolts are on a trailer so you'll need to do a bit of measuring just to verify what you need. Trailer parts are universal so there isn't any specifically adaptable to your trailer, which is why you'll need to measure, and we carry hundreds and hundreds of brands, but most notably those like Dexter and Lippert. It sounds like you are only looking for replacement...

When replacing springs always replace them in pairs (2 springs per axle) but if you are going to replace all 6 then that is even better. When measuring a spring you have to do it with the weight off of the spring by either removing the spring or jacking up one side of the trailer and measuring on that side. • What Is The Purpose Of Steel band On Leaf Springs
The leaf springs are normally installed with the band forward of the axle, but it is not something that has to be done that way. The steel band is called the rebound clip. Their main purpose is to help keep the main leaf from breaking on a rebound. When the weight of a vehicle or trailer is on the spring, all of the leaves work together to support the spring above them. If the wheel drops for any reason the total weight of the axle falls on the main leaf if there are no rebound clips....
