Paramount Bike Pad

The Paramount padded tailgate bike rack is a quick and easy alternative to fork blocks. It saves you from having to remove the front wheels on your bikes and from drilling into your truck bed. And if you normally use a hitch rack, but will be using your hitch to tow, this rack lets you bring up to 7 bikes as well. Spacing blocks prevent bike-to-bike contact, hook-and-loop straps secure your bikes to the rack, and the center flap provides access to your tailgate handle.

Anchor Points

Paramount Stanchion Pads

There are 8 spacing blocks along the outer side of the rack. These blocks provide stabilization for your fork stanchions to prevent bike-to-bike contact. To set up your bikes, just stagger the front wheels over the tailgate hanging outside of the truck and place the fork stanchions between the blocks.

Paramount Hook and Loops

A series of sewn-on loops along the top of the rack provide anchor points for your bikes. Use the included hook-and-loop straps to secure your bikes to the tie-down points to prevent your bikes from shifting during transport. Additional straps (sold separately) are available if you lose one.

Easy Access to Tailgate Handle

Paramount Tailgate Flap

The center flap lets you access your tailgate handle without having to remove the pad so you can lower your tailgate. The flap secures with a hook-and-loop fastener.

Mesh Pockets

Paramount Mesh Pockets

There are 2 sewn-in mesh pockets that let you conveniently store your biking gear. They're great for storing helmets, gloves, and wet or sweaty clothes that you don't want inside your truck.

Heavy-Duty Construction

Paramount Construction

The rack is made of heavy-duty, ballistic tarpaulin. A high-density foam core protects your tailgate and your bikes from dents and dings. The fleece lining provides a soft, smooth surface that won't scratch or scuff your tailgate.

Simple Installation

Paramount Installation

To install the rack just slide it over your tailgate and use the 3 integrated tie-down straps wrap to secure it in place.

Video Transcript for Swagman Paramount Full-Size Trucks Tailgate Pad Review - 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Hey, it's Ethan from here at etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Swagman Paramount Seven Bike Tailgate Pad for full size trucks on our 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. Might be a good option for you if you're trying to get up to seven bikes where you're needing to go, but maybe you're towing something or you don't want the added length that a bike rack will add from your hitch, this could be a good option for you. The bike is being held by the frame on these hook and loop straps in the back. You can slide them up and down a little bit to adjust. If you do have a carbon frame bike, we recommend not using a tailgate pad or anything that holds onto it by the frame, 'cause it could potentially be damaged while it's driving.

These extra pads are fitted throughout to have slots available for you to put the forks of your bike, so you can see the forks sit nicely in here. I will say that our tire right now is obviously covering two other slots, so if you do wanna get up to seven bikes, you're gonna have to get a little bit creative. To get the bike unloaded, all we have to do is undo this hook and loop strap. It is a little bit long, so we might have to rotate it around a couple times to get to the point where it comes out, but once we do, we can grab our bike and get it up and over. I will say that the truck itself is pretty tall and getting over the tailgate might be a little bit difficult depending on how tall you are or how heavy your bike is, so that's something to consider.

With the bike off, now is a good time to take a closer look at this flap, which, if we undo this buckle down here, will give us access to our tailgate and our backup camera. As you can see the inside of the pad, it's a really nice, soft felt material. It's just gonna do a great job of protecting the truck and the paint. The rest of the tailgate uses the same material, so this is a good place to look at it. We fold it all the way back.

You can see there is a buckle on the other side as well. So if we clip that in, that will keep the flap down and in place. One of the main features that sets this pad apart are the fact that it does have these two mesh baskets in the back. It's a nice place to have extra storage for things that you might need to carry, like water bottles or sunscreen, maybe even as big as a helmet. I will say again, that if you do have it fully loaded up, a couple bikes are gonna have to sit here.

So again, you might have to get a little bit creative with how you space your bikes out if you want to use these to their full ability. To fold our flap back down, we'll just unclip it again. And on the other side there's another buckle we saw at the beginning to secure it in place. The pad itself is made of a durable tarp pollen material, which should do well to hold up against UV rays and weather, and the the pad is full length as well. So as we saw when the tire was on, even the forks all the way down still protected the tailgate. The one thing I will say about the tailgate pad that is my least favorite is the installation process. Just like any other tailgate pad, you have three straps or so that you're gonna have to slide under the tailgate with it slightly open. Some other tailgate pads, like the Yakima GateKeeper, do have a plastic coating on the end of those straps. They're easier to slide through and sort of push up through the other side. The sides too we're okay, but we had a lot of trouble getting this middle one through and having enough clearance to grab it from the other side. Overall, as far as features go, there's no tailgate pad that offers quite as much as the Swagman Paramount. The padding is a really nice quality. The straps are nicely adjustable and the baskets in the back are a really good feature as well. If ease of install is the thing that you're strictly looking for, definitely check out the Yakima GateKeeper because it does have the straps like I mentioned. But as far as overall quality goes, I really do like the Swagman Paramount. I think it's a really nice fit on a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500.

I've been using this for a couple of years now. I mainly use it when we go camping. It's been great for carrying the 4 bikes we have. The bikes never have shifted/moved while in transit. The tailgate pad is a little tricky to put on (I lay under the truck and fish the strap up to my son). I've installed the mat by myself but it's way easier with 2 people.

It has been great for 5 or 6 bikes, easy to put on. A little tight and depending on the type of bike it won't line up in the designated spot but I can still velcro the bikes to keep them secure. Would definitely recommend the Swagman. It can be put on with one person but 2 is easier, one in the bed and one threading it through. The same is true for loading/unloading bikes, one in the bed of the truck and one handing the bikes up. I have definitely done it by myself so we're loaded and ready to go camping when the boys get home from school.

Really like this bike rack for my truck. Easy to put on. Handles the Mtb bikes well.

Well made, but you need to do something about the 3 straps...and how you can push a wet noodle up through the gap. Gonna have to put a sting down, and attach it to each stap to pull them up.

  • How to Add a Bike Rack to a 2018 Ford F-150 if the Tonneau Cover is Above the Rails
I have a possible solution for you. First, though, the TruXedo TruXport for your 2018 Ford F-150, part # TX298301, covers the rails of your bed, making it impossible to attach a ladder rack. There is not an adapter that can overcome this obstacle. However, there are other options to carry bikes with your tuck. The first is to use a roof rack with a bike rack like the Yakima FrontLoader, part # Y02103. It attaches to the roof rack and secures the bikes by the wheels. If you let me know...
