Video Transcript for Pacer Performance Hi-Five LED Truck Cab Lights Installation - 2001 Dodge Ram Pickup

Speaker 1: Today, in this 2001 Dodge Ram, we'll be having a look at and showing you how to install the Pacer Performance Hi-Five LED truck cab lights, with amber LEDs and a smoke lens, part number PP20-244S.These lenses are also available in a kit with amber colored lenses, part number PP20-244, as well as a clear lens, part number PP20-244C.Here's what the lights look like installed, at night. As you'll notice, even though we have smoke lenses, we still have amber light showing through them, so we can stay safe and legal at night. These LED lights are not only bright, but they are much longer lasting than your standard incandescent light bulb. If wanted, you could use incandescent light bulbs in it, if you want. The kit even comes with five incandescent bulbs, if you need them. Here's our light bulb without the housing. As you can see, we have eight individual LED diodes on each bulb.

And these diodes are amber in color, so we have the amber clearance lights that our vehicle had from the factory. And here's what they look like during the daytime, with the lights on. You'll really notice the smoked housing and still see the amber light shining through. These housings are designed and styled after the 1999 to 2002 Dodge Ram factory cab-clearance lights. So you still maintain that factory look. With our lights off, you can really appreciate the nice appeal of the smoke color.

It blends in nicely with your dark-colored trucks, such as this one.Now that we've gone over some features, we'll show you how to get them installed. To begin our install, we'll be working on the roof of our truck. In our particular application, our truck already has factory cab lights. The replacement lights that we are installing are modeled directly after the factory cab lights, so they will be a direct replacement for it.We'll start by removing our factory cab light. To do that, there's two Phillips screws.

This kit comes with everything you need in order to install these. You'll have new screws, you'll have a switch, and all the wire you need, in order to hook it up properly. However, in our case, since our truck already has factory clearance lights on it, we'll be reusing the factory screws, since they work properly for the holes that are already in the roof of our truck. And we'll be reusing the wiring that's already there. That way, we don't have to worry about adding a switch.

These will come on when your parking lights are turned on.Now grab the light, pull it up. We'll now cut the two wires that go into the factory bulb socket, as close to the socket as possible. We're doing this because our factory socket is slightly different from the socket that can be used for our new light. We'll now take a utility knife, and we'll slice down the middle of this wire insulation, only going through the top layer. Pull the two wires out through that slit, and we'll now cut off the insulation. We'll now strip off some insulation from both wires, and we'll now crimp on two 18 to 22 gauge heat-shrink butt connectors, which we have available on our website. And the reason I'm using these is because they offer a better weather-proof connection, and they don't damage the wiring. We'll take our new socket, we'll cut off the ring terminal and black wire, and we'll cut the red wire to the same length, to match. We'll strip back insulation from both of those wires. It doesn't matter which wire goes to which one, since this is a light bulb. There's no polarity issues that matter there. But in our application, I'm going to take the red wire to the black wire with the yellow stripe, and I'll crimp it. And then the black wire will go to the other connector, which is on a plain black wire. Now we'll take our heat gun and shrink down our butt connectors. You want to make sure you use a heat gun versus a lighter because a lighter can damage the butt connectors, and you won't have a proper crimp. This provides a source of indirect heat, and we have these available on our website, if you'd like one.We will now take our new LED bulb, and we'll plug it into the socket. We're going to turn on our headlights, now, and ensure that the bulb comes on. If it doesn't come on, we'll need to pull the bulb out, rotate it 180 degrees, and stick it back in. Since this is an LED bulb, the polarity does matter. We have our parking lights turned on, now. As you can see, these are working, here, but this one's not. Now since this one's not working, we will need to pull the bulb out, rotate it 180 degrees, and place it back in. And as you can see, it is now illuminated. Now we'll take our new gasket, run our wires and socket through it in the large hole in the middle. And now we can take our new housing, we'll insert our bulb and socket into the base of it, and we'll rotate it clockwise until it locks in place. Now we'll take our factory screws, place them back through our holes in the top, slide the gasket over the screws, and we'll line this up with the holes in the roof, and tighten the screws down. We don't need to go overly tight on these, just enough to secure it into place, and ensure that the foam gasket provides a good seal on the roof of the truck, to keep the elements out of the cab. With this one done, we can repeat the process for the other four lights. And that completes our look at and installation of the Pacer Performance Hi-Five LED truck cab lights, with amber LEDs and a smoke lens, part number PP20-244S, on this 2001 Dodge Ram.

Purchased and installed the cab lights from etrailer.com. Shipped quickly, reasonably priced and a very easy installation. They look great on the truck. There some great write ups on the web explaining how to easily drop the headliner. Thanks etrailer.

by:

The lights are exactly as described, they look nice. Great customer service, fast shipping. Thanks

by:

I really do like the look of theses lights. They were pretty simple to install. However I really wish the LED bulbs were brighter. They are just a tad bit weak I’d say. Another thing is that the bulb housing doesn’t really fit in the main housing very well. It took some work and finesse just to piece them together. One last thing is that it would have been nice to have a housing designer so that the light from the bulb could be seen from behind. As they stand you can barely see the light from the side and the back is totally blocked. Just some humble suggestions for the future

Great product, fast shipping, looks good on truck

fairly quick shipping..my truck has never had lights...but have installed them on every truck I've owned ( 4 ), This is my 5th. Everything was in the box. It even came with little washers for the screw heads. I used silicone just in case. I was very skeptical of the supplied ground wires but they all worked!!.. I decided on the old style bulbs this time. Might switch if they don't last then I will go to the LED's. I used a different toggle switch than the one supplied. Really like the set so far. I have never seen a truck like mine with cab lights. Maybe others will try it now?

by:

Look good on the truck, one of the center lights became loose so it was not making great contact and therefore was out. I got it working again, but it was a hassle taking the light off the truck to just spin the light a little bit.

by:

The cab lights I ordered came in a timely manner and they were oem quality!

by:

Great product, I replaced existing lights with these. Hole pattern was exactly the same as my old lights. I had two issues not related to the product. My old lights only had one wire through the cab. They had a jumper wire that went from bulb socket to mounting screw for the light.
As far as replacing existing lights goes, this product is great.
For a complaint, the instructions nor video showed me what the little rubber washers were for. Since there were 10 of these I assumed they were for the mounting screws. I used mine for lens cover screws.
I also used silicone under foam pad, on top of foam pad, on mounting screws, and after install was complete I added it at base of lens and around base of light. All not needed but cant hurt to keep water out.

Definitely reccomend this companies products.

The Pacer Performance High-5 lights on my 1992 Ford F350 are high quality. They fit the original screw holes perfectly. The LED lights are bright. The wire connectors were different, but that was no problem. I cut off the connectors and used crimp-on connectors, then taped the connections securely with electrical tape.

by:

One year on, these lights are holding up very well. Installation was pretty simple, I did have to break out a drill to enlarge the factory holes - I believe the factory lights used sheet metal screws to attach to the top of the cab through the lens and these use a metal stud attached to the light base with a nut that tightens from inside the cab (it's been a year and my memory is fuzzy). Outwards though these lights look completely stock. They sealed well and I've experienced no issues with water leaks. 100% suggest these to anyone wanting to replace or upgrade their stock lights to LED while retained the OE look.

by:

They look great! Pretty simple install, everything you need is included and the easy splice makes it even easier to wire everything together. They give you 6, so I just used the last one to tap into my headlights and they turn on automatically whenever those are on. LED’s are pretty bright and that’s what I went with, but they also give you the classic bulbs to choose from as well. 4 stars for now just to see how they hold up!

by:

Lights and everything arrived quickly, everything needed was in the packaging. The only thing I did differently was I wired the lights into my existing light switch instead of a separate switch, just bought 16 gauge wire from hardware store. I added some t10 LED lights which look awesome at night! During the day LED or incandescent bulbs are not very visible anyway. Overall awesome product!

by:

Good set of lights , actually need another set. Very happy with them

by:

I have ordered many times and have always had great experience!!

by:

After reading not so good reviews on other cab lights I found these and saw nothing but good things about them and when I had them installed I was more than happy with them. I would recommend to anyone wanting to put cab lights on their truck

by:

The lights were purchased as replacement for the existing lights already on the truck, so all the hard work of drilling the holes and running the wiring was already done. What little installation I had to do was fairly easy, and simple. The lights match the originals exactly and you can't tell them apart from the old ones. The package was shipped promptly and arrived undamaged within a few days. Overall I'm extremely pleased with the order and I will be using your company for future purchases and I will definitely recommend your company to other people who need the type of things you supply.

by:

Bought these lights about a year ago and they look and work great! The lighting makes a perfect red and they are very bright as well, but that can depend on the bulbs you decide to use. Easy installation too!

by:

Great lights looks amazing on my GMC, i could not be happier. I had the installed as no one wants me wiring anything. The LED bulbs are nice and bright. I would recommend these lights to anyone.

by:

Lights exactly as described. Package came with both LED bulbs and incandescent bulbs. Easy to install. I watched the installation video which was very helpful. I only installed 4 as my vintage truck has a middle rotating beacon.

by:

The smoked lens look great! On my 2017 black 3500 RAM. Install took about 45 minutes. LED bulbs need to go the right way to work. Shipping was quick, and thanks to Jason and everyone at etrailer for making the ordering process easy.

by:

Straightforward install. Worst part was dropping the headliner. Tapped into the power source at passenger side kick panel in my 97 Ford. Very happy with my purchase.

by:

Had these lights on my truck for a year now and they work great the installation was pretty easy. I installed them on my ram 1500

by:

These have only been on for a few days but they seem to be a very reliable option if your truck needs cab lights. Straight forward install and I was pleased to find out the bases and lenses are molded of a nice poly plastic. I was worried the bases would be weak and flimsy. I ordered two sets, one set for a 2000 f350 that never had cab lights, and a second set for a 2002 f350 that already had cab lights but were aged and weathered. I was able to get my drilling dimensions from one truck and just transfer over to the other. Simply dropped the headliner, marked my holes on masking tape, drilled holes, mounted lights, and ran wiring down to behind my headlight switch tapped into the running lights wire. I did go the extra mile and added some silicone around my bolt and wire holes for a little extra insurance prior to putting the headliner back in place. I was a little intimidated to start with but after all said and done I would have no issue doing this over again on multiple trucks. I'm not a professional mechanic by trade, just handy enough to do my own exhaust, stereo, and lighting installs as well as oil changes etc. These cab lights can be installed by novice wrench turners. etrailer does however need to update their website pictures though. The updated version of these lights have studs molded into the bases so they are held on by a nut and washer from inside the cab. The pictures on etrailer must be a previous version that were fastened by sheet metal style screws screwed in from the topside. Pacer Performance website shows the proper product, etrailer should make that a priority to follow suit and update their literature. The molded studs is a much better design! Kudos Pacer Performance!

The Pacer Performance Hi-Five LED Truck Cab Lights - Dodge - 5 Piece - Amber LEDs - Smoke Lens # PP20-247S only fits 2003 to 2017 Ram models but comes with both the bulb and the LEDs. Then # PP20-246S has just the amber bulb option. My recommendation for you is the # PP20-247S which I confirmed with the manufacturer will fit your 2017 Ram 3500.
