Installing a Brake Controller on a 2013 VW Touareg TDI with OEM Trailer Package
Question:
I am quite confused what I need to do ? There is a pigtail under my dash but once I purchase a P3 what else do I need that is not included to install? Do I need an extension together it the controller from the plug and a separate power source

Installing the P3 on your 2013 Volkswagen Touareg is possible, however an aftermarket plug-in harness is not available. If the pigtail that you found under your dash is for a brake controller, you will either have to splice the wires from the brake controller to the wires from the pigtail or you may be able to get a plugin adapter from Volkswagen if one is available.
You should not need any additional parts to install the brake controller because the brake controller will come with the necessary hardware. I would recommend a circuit tester like part # PTW2993, to test wires on the pigtail to ensure you are connecting the correct wires to the brake controller.
You will have 4 wires coming from the brake controller. White is for ground, Black is for 12-volt power from the vehicle battery, Blue is for the brake output to the trailer connector, and the red wire connects to the stop light switch. When testing the wires on the pigtail, there should be only one wire that has power when the brake pedal is pressed.
